Good morning to ALL!
President Shelly is on her way to the Soroptimist International Convention in Ireland so our fabulous Past President Paula is stepping in!
Before we begin with today's recap, we'd like to extend our greatest thanks to Jeanne Prestella and Paula Peterson for their amazing work and leadership at this past week's American Century Championship. We'd also like to send out a big thank you to the many ladies (and their friends) who worked shifts for the event. This is more moola that will go towards our Service Funds which go directly to enhancing the lives of others here in Tahoe and around the world! Just a couple of pics from the best ACC yet! Well done ladies!

Today's invocation by Lydia spoke to fate and destiny. She shared a personal story that demonstrated that fate might be thought of as a path we are to follow and destiny being what we do in following that path. All of us can think of many situations and moments that have brought us to the here and now. The people in our lives, the place we live, the work we are doing, were all a result of a single decision. Where has your path brought you and what will you do with it?
Guests today included: Janna York (relocated to So. Cal but joins us and is always a member!), and Lisa Fisher who it turns out is soon to be an official member! Wow!
Sunshine goes out to Carolyn and her mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family.

Today's guest speaker was our friend Kathy Haven who presented Tahoe Learning Haven! Having graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Education, Kathy spent the first decade of her career as a math and science teacher in South Lake Tahoe. Kathy has been a stay-at-home mom of 3 and volunteer extraordinaire over the many years. She has served the community through the inception of the Two-Way Immersion Program in South Lake Tahoe and as a founder & board member of many non-profits, like the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund, the FEET Fund, the CAPP Fund, and Tahoe Magic. Kathy is a busy lady and presented THREE very important programs that need the attention and funds of our entire community, so please SHARE this information with your fellow friends and service club members. Today's topics included:
- Tahoe Learning Haven
- EDCF's Scholarship Education Forum
- EDCF's Speed Dating for non profits!
Tahoe Learning Haven is a series of forums for everyone in our community, adults and kids! These forums are presented by educators and professionals in our community and are the building tools to successfully get our youth through school and life. The Tahoe Learning Haven is in need of one additional Board member, volunteers to participate at the forums, and SPONSORS. This is a nonprofit that is working to benefit our entire community, so please help where you can!

EDCF's Scholarship Education Forum is a free event for all El Dorado County scholarship donors, funders, and individuals considering starting a scholarship for students in our county (or that serve our youth). Here you can learn about the scholarship process, how to reach the student applicants your group is seeking, and learn hot to create and improve your scholarships for the 21st century!
For our local service clubs who provide scholarships, this could be an amazing step forward in how we organize and facilitate our scholarship process. Take a look at the site here. Could be an excellent way of working smarter and not harder!
The next forum is Wednesday, September 6th from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. Reserve your spot at this form by Aug. 25 with Kathy at kathy@eldoradocf.org.

EDCF's Speed Dating for Nonprofits is another resource and tool to consider! It's how a nonprofit can gain board members, volunteers, and notoriety by the community at large. This is a quick and fun way to connect community members who might be interested in serving your nonprofit in one way or another. It could also be a connection to someone who is looking to financially support where their heart lies. Nonprofits and community members self select their area of interest while signing up. At the event there is a 3.5 minute exchange of information from each participant and then you move onto the next individual for more information!. It's a few minutes that could change your life! The next event is on Wednesday, Oct. 4th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. Use this QR Code to register now!
Any questions or thoughts, send our friend Kathy an email at kathy@eldoradocf.org. She'd love to hear from you!

Cold water shock occurs when the body enters extremely cold water and the muscles lock up, resulting in temporary paralysis. Cold water shock doesn’t care how fit you are, or how strong of a swimmer you are, Tahoe’s cold waters will paralyze you and you will drown. Period. Full details here
