Make-A-Wish Surprise

Last Thursday, Make-A-Wish Vermont wish kid, Kathryn, learned at a magical surprise event, that she will go to Disney in April for her long-awaited wish. The reveal celebration featured music and dance performances, a Disney-themed carnival, and a Disney cake and cookies. The event was truly magical for Kathryn, her family, and her school, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the SJA community.

Chef B and her Professional Baking class spent hours of thought, work, creativity, and skill in making the Disney castle cake and Mickey Mouse cookies.

Ray Walker and Academy Theater opened their costume room so that Magical Princesses Belle (Maren Nitsche ‘23), Aurora (Jenna Jones ‘23), Cinderella (Sophia Shippee ‘23), and Prince Eric (Rory Higgs ‘23) were properly attired.

Aden Marcotte ‘23, Siri Jolliffe ‘24, and Cameron Clark ‘24, and their exceptional musical talents performed songs from "Frozen" and "Moana" at the event.

In addition to their primary roles, the students spent the afternoon running games, posing for photos, and spreading joy and happiness during the event.

Photos from the event (and of the bakers!) can be viewed here.

Chapel Talk

Junior Alyssa Ball delivered a Chapel Talk on life with Cerebral Palsy and to recognize Cerebral Palsy Month. A video of Alyssa's talk can be viewed here.

Raising Awareness

Students from Mrs. McGarvin’s Intro to Human Services class asked the school community to wear teal on April 4th as a way to show support to those who have experienced sexual harm as April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This is one of many calls to action that can be found with the #30daysofSAAM campaign brought by the National Sexual Violence Resources Center. The class also provided teal ribbons, and a Chapel talk and reminded our community that Umbrella and our campus health office have resources and supports for survivors or folks wanting more information.
