Athletics Calendar

We are now using Arbiter as our Athletics Calendar as part of an initiative by the VPA. For this reason, athletic events no longer appear on the school calendar on the website. They can be accessed through the Athletics Calendar on the website or you can bookmark this link for the most up-to-date Hilltopper game and practice times and final scores.

AROUND CAMPUS

Last week, a group of students traveled to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Student Diversity Leadership Conference in St. Louis, MO. The conference was an opportunity for over 2000 student leaders from high schools across the U.S. and abroad to engage in deep conversations around topics of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Attending the event were Kayden Bogle, Victoria Gutierrez Medina, Justice Drayton-Paynter, Ari Leven, Kevin Zheng, and Luis Pena Tejada. Mrs. Reed and Mr. Yates served as chaperones on the trip.

Juniors Lilly Chase (left) and Ine Zartarian pose in front of the 418 wreaths the Class of 2025 sold. Lilly was the top seller, with 55 wreaths sold and Ine sold 40. The long-time event is an annual fund-raiser for the junior class. Not shown is third-place finisher Quinn MacDonald, who sold 26 wreaths.

Nearly seventy seniors delivered their capstone projects on Friday. Photos from some of the venues can be viewed here.

While the seniors and juniors were involved in capstone projects on Friday, the sophomores listened to several presentations from local area non-profit groups as they prepared for their Sophomore Stewardship projects in the spring. The Class of 2027 participated in the 9th Grade Challenge, which included various advisory competitions and humanities classes.

The Hilltones performed during Chapel on Tuesday as they prepare for the Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 12, at 7:00 PM in South Church Hall.

Between the varsity games on Saturday, officials with the IAABO Board 105 presented the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award to SJA for the 2022-2023 season. The award is named in honor of Mona Garone, who coached the girls’ varsity basketball teams at Oxbow High School for 36 years and holds the record for most career wins. The award recognizes the positive attitude and character of a school’s teams and those of the school’s fans, athletic departments, and community. Accepting the award for SJA are girls’ varsity coach Jade Huntington, who played for coach Garone, and boys’ varsity coach Patrick Rainville.

During Saturday’s Support on the Court event between SJA and North Country Union High School, members of the Sullycat Foundation and the Northeast Kingdom Cancer Action Network (NEKCAN) each presented a check to Chrissy Carr of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in the amount of $500. Present for the event were (l-r) Jacob Cady ’19 and Jordan Cady ’15, Sullycat Foundation board members; Chrissy Carr ’91; Garth Leach ’92, VP of NEKCAN; SJA Girls’ Varsity Basketball coach Jade Huntington; and Boys’ Varsity Basketball coach Patrick Rainville. The annual basketball event, which was started as part of a senior capstone project by Rebekah Balch Johnston ’12, raised over $2,600. Officials working each of the four games also donated their fees towards the Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

On Saturday, the basketball teams hosted North Country in their annual fundraising event called Support on the Court. Photos from the varsity games can be viewed here.
