Students Recieve Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
St. Johnsbury Academy students won 20 regional art awards in this year's 2022 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for both Fine Art and Writing. A total of 13 students won awards for their work in Digital Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Graphic Art, Mixed Media, Journalism, and Personal Essay and Memoir. They received two Gold Keys, nine Silver Keys, and nine Honorable Mentions. Entries winning regional Gold Keys will be judged at the national level of the competition in the coming weeks.

Senior Wins Rotary Speech Contest
Three students participated in the Rotary Speech Contest via Zoom on Monday. Senior Payton Molleur was the winner. This year's topic was "How can your school partner with Rotary to change lives?" Also competing were senior Clara Andre (second) and sophomore Greer Kennedy (third). Payton advances to the district round on May 7th.

Musicians to Attend New England Music Festival
Sophomore Greer Kennedy, and seniors Emma Buhner and Henry Sipples will be attending the All-New England Music Festival this week in Burlington, Ct. Greer will play the Viola in the orchestra, Emma will play the flute in the band, and Henry will perform with the chorus.

This Saturday, Sisu Lange battled driving snow and wind gusts to compete against New England’s best nordic skiers. Competing for Team Vermont at the Eastern Nordic Championships, Sisu finished in 10th place on the Vermont team of 24 athletes and 45th overall in the U16 division. Team Vermont finished in 2nd place overall, losing to New Hampshire by only 9 points. Sisu finished the 5k Skate in 17:31, the skate sprint in 3:02, and 9:56 in the 3k Classic race. |

At the New Balance Nationals in New York on Friday, senior Evan Thornton-Sherman (l) ran to 20th place in the Championship race, lowering his Vermont State Record in the 2 mile by 15 seconds. Evan ran 9:09.13. Evan placed 46th out of 65 in the Championship 1 mile on Sunday with a time of 4:18.36 to complete his incredible indoor season. Also on Sunday, Andrew Thronton-Sherman placed 2nd in the Freshman 800 with a personal best time of 2:02.44. |
