What Our Many Stories Teach

This week, as we prepare to meet prospective students and their families at our Open House (Thursday, 11/3, 6:30 pm), we have been thinking about the value of stories. I asked folks in Chapel: What do the most powerful chapel talks have in common? What do we pretty much always want to hear when another person speaks? Much as I love it, it’s not poetry–I’m making my peace with that. It’s not announcements, or lectures, or abstract arguments–even when these are about things we care about, like kindness and community.

DAR Good Citizens Award And Scholarship Contest

Senior Jonathan Kalach Chelminsky, of Mexico City, Mexico, has been selected as the winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest by his classmates. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Three students were nominated by the faculty and voted on by the senior class, with the winner being chosen because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. The other two nominees for the award were seniors Nathan Lenzini and Lydia Wang.

The Hilltopper has opened for the semester. The hours are 11:30-12:45 Tuesday-Thursday. Reservations are suggested, so give them a call at 748-8964 to make one. Take-out orders are not currently available. They will be closed on Thursday this week (Nov. 3) to prepare for a function.

Intro to Baking students had a run on donuts and whoopie pies after school.

The Outing Club took advantage of the weather to get in another climb. 

Welding students are busy perfecting their skills. 

The Boys' Cross Country team repeated as state champs at Thetford last weekend. They'll travel to the New England Championships next weekend in Rhode Island and will be joined by the Girls' Cross Country team, which also qualified for the meet. The team includes Ari Leven '25 (16th overall), Carson Eames '24 (7th), Andrew Thornton-Sherman '25 (3rd), Nathaniel Bernier '24 (13th), Isaac Lenzini '26 (17th), Nathan Lenzini '23 (12th) and Charlie Krebs '23 (9th). 

Bruce James (right), the owner of WSTJ-AM, presented the WW II Memorial Trophy to Assistant Coach Travis Bugbee and the team's captains (Quinn Murphy '23, and Dawson Wilkins '23) yesterday. The trophy has been presented since 1952, by WSTJ, to the winner of the LI-SJA football game. SJA won this year's game 48-14.
