WEEKLY MESSAGE

Unbelievably, we have been in session for four weeks already, which means that we have reached the end of the first quarter of the semester. At the end of this week, the Academic Office will send out grade reports to each student and their family. These reports are intended as a snapshot of where the student stands at this moment in time. The reports should allow students to understand the areas in which they are doing well and where they need to improve. As Dr. Howell promises each incoming class, we are here to help each student “become the best learner possible.” To that end, we have numerous supports available to help students reach their academic goals, from conference period, to the learning center, to after school academic support in the library, to special services. We encourage every student to take full advantage of the faculty’s willingness to help every student. After receiving the interim reports, please reach out to teachers and advisors if you would like your student to receive academic support. We are eager to partner with you in helping your child succeed.

Community Service Project

As part of SJA's commitment to community service, Mr. Roberts and his Advanced Electrical students moved and stacked firewood under cover for a local family last week. 

Adult Education Updates Course Offerings at New Location

St. Johnsbury Academy Adult Education kicked off its schedule of fall courses in late August at its new location in downtown St. Johnsbury. The program offers a variety of courses ranging from personal enrichment to professional development to training in the trades. The center had a soft opening in January during which it hosted a weekend electrical coding class for electricians who needed to update their certifications. Since then, the school has trained over 300 adults in a spectrum of courses covering fields as diverse as Conflict Management and Commercial Driver’s Licensing.

Members of the Hilltopper Mountain Bike Club raced Saturday in East Burke on Kingdom Trails and land owned by Burke Mountain. Photos from the day can be viewed here. We are also producing a video for the club. If you can't wait a few weeks to see the completed project, click here for a preview. 

Mr. Mackenzie performed an original song in Chapel this week. To watch a video of his performance, click here. 

Students enjoyed an after-school bake sale thanks to Intro to Baking students who prepared cookies, cakes, and Cinnabons so big some of them wouldn't even fit in the boxes. 

Mr. Moore welcomed Ninth-Grade Seminar students to the library this week and introduced them to all of the resources that are available. 

Mr. Stark and his students spent time this week working on a new project and studying the grain patterns of the wood. 

Members of the Chess Club tried out their new set on Tuesday. Since the board did not arrive, the students improvised and used the tiles in the Dining Hall. 

Students enrolled in Building Trades, Woodworking, and Welding looked on as the footings were poured for the new Barker Ave. gate. The welding students have been fabricating the new gate in their class.
