Celebrating Yom Kippur

On Monday, September 25, longtime SJA faculty member Ellen Meranze spoke during morning chapel in Fuller Hall about the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Ms. Meranze teaches in the Languages Department and in the Capstone program, and this quarter has taught a popular X-block class in American Sign Language.

Good morning. Last night at sundown began the highest of the high holy days for Jewish people around the world: Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. Today is the culmination of what began ten days ago on Rosh Hashanah. Then we started the celebration and preparations for the year 5784 in the Gregorian calendar.

Creating a Safe Learning Environment

St. Johnsbury Academy faculty and staff are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s experience this academic year, as we endeavor to live out our school theme of Semper Discens – always learning – as a community.

We feel strongly that SJA provides many supports to create a safe learning environment on campus, including the advisory program, small class sizes, and programming and services to support students’ physical, mental and emotional

wellbeing. While we believe that a community based on relationship leads to a safe environment, we also recognize the need to be prepared for the unforeseen. Just as we prepare for the unlikely emergencies of fire, weather, and other

environmental hazards, we must also prepare for the unlikely event of a violent critical incident.
