Reading Month Assembly

Saint Joseph Academy welcomed Mystery Guest Reader Chief Paul Trinka from the Adrian Fire Department at our Reading Month assembly on March 29. Chief Trinka shared how important reading was for his job and then entertained our students by reading the book "The Great White Man-Eating Shark" by Margaret Mahy.

Next we congratulated our elementary students for their reading month accomplishments! Our first and second graders read for a total of 9,121 minutes during the month of March (the equivalent of 6 days, 8 hours and 1 minute of non-stop reading)! Our third and fourth graders read for a total of 12,332 minutes during March (the equivalent of 8 days, 13 hours and 32 minutes of non-stop reading)!

Top readers for each grade were Claire Rhames (grade 1), Juliette Noel (grade 2), Mason Edison (grade 3) and Shrey Gupta (grade 4). The top readers each received a digital timer bookmark. For every 30 minutes of reading, students could fill out a raffle card and be entered to win one of our many prizes.Prize winners included: Molly Marquez, Mariela Cueto, Anish Gupta, Jathon Henagan, and Christopher Scott. The winner of a new bike and helmet, donated by the Adrian Kiwanis Club, was Mason Edison. All students received a new book and a goodie bag.

The assembly concluded with some fun music videos about reading. Thank you for encouraging our students to read!
