Safety Guests

We give a huge thanks to Captain Holtfreter, Hollywood Fire Rescue, and Firefighter Horkheimer from BSO (Broward Sheriff's Office) Fire Rescue, for teaching our students regarding fire safety.

Some of the main talking points included:

1. Students should know to call 911 in case of an emergency
2. Students should know their address so they can tell the dispatcher
3. Everyone should sleep with their door closed so the fire is contained outside of your room
4. If there is a fire and you can't get out of your room, yell for help (DO NOT HIDE)
5. Families should have an escape route and a planned meeting place (i.e. nearby mailbox)
6. All homes should have a smoke alarm near all bedrooms and garages
7. If there is a fire in your house, do not go back in the house for items or pets

The Essential 55 - Rules 19 & 20

Rule 19: Complaining

When I assign homework, there will be no moaning or complaining. This will result in a doubled assignment. If it is not possible to assign a doubled assignment, other work will be assigned .

Rule 20: The Sub Clause

While you are with a substitute teacher, you will obey the same rules that you follow when I’m with you.
Box Tops Dress Down Day

As stated in the 2019-20 Parent/Student Handbook, every parent is required to volunteer a minimum of
10 service hours, per family, for the school year. Failure to do so will result in a $100.00 charge to your account for each hour not completed.

Thank you for your much valued help.
OFFICE DROP OFF / PICK UP / PHONE CALLS
To limit classroom disruptions and to foster student responsibility, phone calls home for missing iPads and chargers, homework, music instruments, sports equipment or PE clothes, lunchboxes or other supplies is discouraged. Students may only call home for emergencies. We encourage parents to keep money on the school lunch account in the case of a forgotten lunchbox. If any lunchboxes are brought in, the front office will hold onto them until the child’s lunch period. Any changes to pick up procedures, especially if someone is being picked up by an individual not on the pickup list, parents need to email the front office and the homeroom teacher the name of the person for pick up.
Dear SJA Parents,

As we celebrate our 60 th  Parish Anniversary –which is a diamond anniversary, and tying in perfectly with our St. Joan of Arc S.H.I.N.E. theme:
“Our souls should be like a transparent crystal through which God can be perceived…”
- St. Teresa of Calcutta
"Like a diamond, you too are God’s treasure formed from the foundations of the earth.  Changing us from carbon to a diamond is God’s plan for us.   You are his workmanship, brilliantly fashioned and formed.  God has a special plan for you and purpose for you right here.  We all know diamonds are formed under intense pressure.  Every problem, conflict, trial, hardship and opposing force is shaping and polishing your brilliance.   Let’s shine and let God shine through us this school year!"
On behalf of the Athletic Department, I would like to thank the parents for contributing in full to the donation of the soccer/futsal goals that were purchased in August.
The goals have been used twice a week during Soccer Club, where students are learning basic individual technical and tactical concepts, and will soon also be used during P.E. classes as we introduce soccer and futsal to prepare students for the upcoming competitive season.

1.  PLEASE make sure to OPEN your Daidone Dining LUNCH ACCOUNT and FUND the account. Some families are already accumulating high balances.
2. Speak to your child about if you wish him/ her to order SNACKS and how many. If you wish to put a limit in writing, please speak to the cafeteria staff.
3. We need families to PRE-ORDER ONLINE in order to maintain the quality of the food and keep the price down.
Daidone Dining Lunch Service
Thank you for welcoming our new Food Services Staff and for being so enthusiastic as we aim to provide "cleaner" food with non GMO ingredients.
Chef David enjoyed meeting your children this week! Our students received tons of compliments for being so well-mannered with the cafeteria staff.
Reminders for our new Food Services Company - Daidone Dining:
1. Instructions to create an account.  Click on the button below.
If you have any questions regarding your account, please email Daidone Dining directly at   [email protected]
2. Cost: $4.50 for Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 and $5.25 for Kindergarten through 8th grade *Please note you can get extra snacks at lunch and during Extended Care.   So you can avoid surprises,   discuss with your child how much money they are allowed to spend on snacks and what types of items you will allow them buy.
3. We encourage your family to go through the menu prior to each month or week in order to facilitate the process. With your cooperation, we will waste less food, keep the price cost per meal lower, and make the lunch line flow more quickly. You have the opportunity to choose your child’s meal all the way up  until just before 9 am of the day  you would like hot lunch served. If you don't choose a menu beforehand, the student who wants lunch will automatically be served the main entree of the day in lieu of getting to choose one of the meal options.

The student are learning to program the engines as well as touch, color, distance and gyro sensors. The middle school students pictured below have mastered skills in prior years. They are now able to work at their own pace. Projects include: building printers, cranes, and a car that will change speed whenever the vehicle's sensors are touched.

On Oct. 15th, the SJA school went "pink" in support of Breast Cancer. The school raised $600 in this dress down fundraiser.
SJA student "explorers" had the opportunity to visit a "planetarium", observe the moon through telescopes, create their own "galaxy" with beaded bracelets, create "moon sand", send rocket ships "flying" and so much more during the 1st Family Science Night of the 2019-2020 school year. Families enjoyed pizza and participated in a variety of fun learning activities. Thank you, STREAM Club and Miss Christian, for coordinating a fun event!
