Dear Cathedral,
St. Francis is my favorite saint of all time. His life truly embodies the gospel and his message is simple and profound. Francis gave up his life of wealth and prestige to walk in nature and sing to the trees. He rebuilt churches, prayed for those in need, and saw angels. He lived a life of praise for all God’s creation, and he adored animals.
Every year in early October, we celebrate St. Francis. Join us for an outdoor worship service to bless your pets at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 3. Because we are outdoors, you do not have to wear masks. Come and let us give thanks to God and bless our beloved pets!
In Christ’s love,
Kate+
P.S. Please take a moment to watch this beautiful video made by our own teen Mattie Sacks!

Cathedral refugee ministry comes full circle
|
|
St. John’s Cathedral parishioners offered an outpouring of support for a new immigrant/refugee ministry begun by Fr. Raja and his wife Lily back in 2016. After escaping war-torn Sudan, these refugees waited an average of 12 years in Egypt hoping to gain visas to the U.S. While there, they attended All Saints Cathedral, where Fr. Raja was pastor. He and Lily encouraged the refugees to request Jacksonville as their new home once they received their visas. Thus, began the SJC unique ministry in which the refugees already had spiritual guidance and emotional support prior to arrival.
Through resettlement agencies, refugees receive basic survival needs such as housing, access to employment, health care, English language classes, cultural orientation, and school enrollment for children. However, this initial help, known as Reception and Placement, is only a 90-day period. Thereafter, the assistance decreases and the expectation for self-sufficiency increases. The need for community volunteer involvement is great.

A World of Quilts exhibit throughout October
|
|
Taliaferro Hall at St. John’s cathedral will be transformed into A WORLD OF QUILTS, an exhibition of quilts by Jacque Huber opening on September 19, 2021, and running through the end of October.
World of Quilts
The visitor’s eyes will be dazzled by the more than twenty hand-pieced quilts in the exhibition. Surrounded by blazing colors, subdued and subtle designs, traditional and modern patterns, and ingenious quilting, they will be delighted by Jacque’s (a trained engineer and business executive) mastery of an art form that has deep ties to American church-women in 19th and 20th century America but is now available to the wider world of contemporary art.

2022 Stewardship Campaign continues

How will my pledge be used?
Your pledge makes it possible for St. John's Cathedral to create a budget for our staffing, ministries, programs, and outreach for the coming year. In other words, pledging is the primary basis for what we can accomplish as a church. Here's another use that you may not have considered. Pledging is a spiritual discipline. It's one of the vital signs of spiritual life. It provides a tangible way for you to grow in your faith by sharing the resources that God has provided.

Assistance needed in the wake of Hurricane Ida
|
On Sunday, August 29, sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the same region. This Category 4 storm brought flooding and damaging winds that caused a loss of water to hundreds of thousands and a loss of electricity to over 1 million people. Episcopal Relief & Development is working closely with the Diocese of Louisiana and other regional partners in what will be a long-term response. Your generous gift will help alleviate suffering for the most vulnerable residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Please visit episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a gift today.

Diocese of Florida Prayer for the Election of Our Bishop
Almighty God, giver of every good gift, we pray that you would look graciously upon the Diocese of Florida, and so guide the minds and hearts of the Nominating Committee as they prayerfully select candidates for the election of the next bishop of this diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries: Guide also the minds and hearts of the candidates who will come before the Nominating Committee, that this process will be a time of discernment and growth in their lives and ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
