A Beautiful Transformation...

Over the past two weeks, the Cathedral has gone through a beautiful transformation. Both staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to clean and organize the campus as we embark on our efforts to be good stewards of God’s space. This initiative has included campus-wide spring cleaning where the Cathedral’s many closets, meeting rooms, and offices were cleaned and organized. In addition, the contents of several rooms have been moved to other areas of the campus, creating new meeting spaces that will provide many mixed-use opportunities.

Part of this initiative included a successful yard sale this past weekend. Many of our pieces of office furniture, chairs, books, and other treasures found new homes by the many individuals who visited the Cathedral. An enormous thank you to Angela Corey and her friend Pam for their help in coordinating the sale.

One mixed-use space recently created is the meeting location of Scout Troop 906. Now located in the Cathedral House basement, the troop participated in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week. Many thanks to the Vestry members and staff who attended the ceremony.

We welcome you to visit and see the new spaces being created. One exciting new space is the relocated Rev. Bernie Dooly Lending Library, now part of Dean Kate’s Cathedral House office.

There are so many individuals to thank for helping make all this possible. The guidance by the Building Use Task Force has been invaluable. Members include Jayne Hill, Jane Lester, Lisa McKenna, Scott Hill, and Jay Wright. Other volunteers who are gratefully acknowledged include Faye Wisner, Peggy Cobb, Bonnie Hardman, Betty Ann Graves, Susan Bancks, Beth Wilson, St. John’s Cathedral youth, Blessings in a Backpack team, and Family Promise team. And a huge thank-you to the staff who helped including our sextons, Anice Jackson, Marie Tarver, Debbie Scroggins, and Malcolm Williams, and others including Pam Searcy, Owene Courtney, Nancy Purcell, Liesl Gavronsky-Howsare, Patricia Moore, Marsha Hohimer, and Rich McKenna.

Youth Selling Native Fresh Greens and Cookies on Bookstore Porch

The SJC Youth Group will be selling fresh greens, vegetables, and cookies after each service. Look for them on the front porch of the Cathedral Bookstore. All funds raised will go towards scholarships for our youth to attend retreats and mission trips. We’ll be following all social distance protocols so please wear a mask.

Altar Flowers

The flowers at the high altar this Sunday are given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for the 47^th wedding anniversary of JD & Teresa Mason

Upcoming Events

On Saturday, May 1, the youth will start their Operation Cookie service project. All youth are invited to bring their ingredients for their favorite cookie recipe and meet in the kitchen at the cathedral from 10am-2pm every first Saturday. They will sell the cookies along with the greens from Native Fresh every Sunday. All funds raised will go to a local shelter.

Visit the New Prayer Shawl Corner

Our Prayer Shawl Corner is up and running! It’s on the first floor of the Brown House, behind the Cathedral Bookstore. Stop by if you want to: 1) pick up a Prayer Shawl for someone who is in need, such as an illness, medical procedure, bereavement, new baby, mental health, etc. 2) drop off a Prayer Shawl you have made, and attach a tag to it, or 3) pick up some donated yarn to make a Prayer Shawl or practice your knitting/crocheting.
