A Message From The President
Mr. Freund
Dear SJCA Families,

Our Annual Auction, "All that Glitters is Blue and Gold", is fast approaching on November 9th. This special night is the biggest SJCA fundraiser of the year yielding approximately $200,000 in proceeds that go directly to our students' education.

In order to make this night a success, we need everyone's help.

  • Please sell and/or purchase raffle tickets. If every family sells three books of raffle tickets, we will make over $75,000 for the school.
  • It's not too late to donate an item to the auction. Themed baskets, sports tickets or gift cards are always popular items.
  • Purchase a ticket to the event. Plan on joining our SJCA family for a fun gathering of alumni, parents, friends and supporters.
  • Remember, if we make our budgeted goal of $200,000, we all get an extended spring break this April.

Thanks in advance for supporting this event. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Best regards,
Bob Freund
Middle School News
Mr. Rizzo
SJCA Middle School Families,

As we begin the 2nd Quarter and start wrapping up the month of October, I have asked our students to stay focused on our behavior standards – our Lancer Value System. As you can recall, the month of October is focused around Humility.

For the Month of October, the Middle School has been concentrating on our Lancer Value – Humility. Our Middle School staff and I have asked our students to focus on recognizing the sacrifices of many in all of their own personal achievements. Considering the value of others opinions, thinking of others first before yourself, and being humble in your accomplishments are a few of the qualities of emphasis with our Lancer Value in October. As always, please have conversations with your student on how he or she can continue to work on our Lancer Value during the last two weeks of October.

On Monday, I provided our middle school students several examples of Humility. Mother Teresa said it best when she said, “Humility is the mother of all virtues; purity, charity and obedience. It is in being humble that our love becomes real, devoted and ardent. If you are humble, nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are. If you are blamed, you will not be discouraged. If they call you a saint, you will not put yourself on a pedestal.”

Parent/Teacher Conferences
I am looking forward to seeing all of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Reminder:  Parent/Teacher Conferences are from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday and 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Our teachers will be located in the cafeteria or lobby. Please pick up your student’s 1st quarter report card in the lobby and make your way to the teachers you would like to visit with. Please note that these conferences are intended to be short, but productive, conversations with your student’s teachers. If you need more than 5 minutes of time with a specific teacher, please schedule a separate meeting time. Meetings are on a first -come, first-served basis.

2019 All That Glitters… Is Blue & Gold Auction
Be sure to sell your raffle tickets! First prize is $10,000! Tickets are $10 each or a book of 6 is $50. Pick up a few books at conferences! Let’s do our part to make this great event for SJCA a night to remember. See you there!

God Bless,
Mr. Rizzo

Mrs. Santarelli

Greetings SJCA Families,

We have many special events happening in the next few days. Below are some details for those events.

Storybook Pumpkins:
Thank you to all our families that decorated pumpkins as storybook characters for the October Family Engagement activity. Pumpkins can be dropped off this week and they will be displayed in the cafeteria now through our Halloween Social. Pumpkins may be taken home after the school Halloween Social or picked up by Wednesday, October 30th at 2 p.m.

Halloween Social:
This Thursday is the Annual Halloween Social for grades 3K through 5th grade which will be from 5 - 7 p.m. in the gym. Parents are expected to supervise their children during the party, as this is not a drop-off event. Admission to this event is a canned or non-perishable food item. All proceeds will benefit the St. Mark Thanksgiving Food Drive and other local food pantries.

Trunk or Treat:
During the school day Thursday, October 31st students may change into their Halloween costumes after lunch for the parent-sponsored Trunk-or-Treat. Below are the guidelines for costumes:
  • Modest costumes should be worn in compliance with the school dress code.
  • Weapons of any type (real or imitation) should not be brought to school.
  • For safety, masks may not be worn by students.
  • The event is at 1:45 p.m.

All Saints Day - Holy Day of Obligation - Friday, 11/1 at 9 a.m .
On Friday, November 1st, our students will be celebrating All Saints Day Mass at St. Mark church at 9 a.m.  All students are invited to dress as their favorite Patron Saint. Please bring the costume to school. Students should know who their Patron Saint is and why he/she is important. Those in Saint costumes will be part of a special procession during Mass. Please note the time of this Mass on 11/1 is at 9 a.m. and there will be NO MASS on Wednesday 10/30.   Click here to participate in the All Saints Mass Procession.

This week marks the end of our first quarter of school. Report cards will be distributed during Parent/Teacher Conferences. The partnership between school and home is a critical piece to the success of any student. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or myself if you have any questions or concerns. In my experience, it is better to talk and work through concerns sooner rather than later, so please feel free to contact me.

Blessings,
Mrs. Santarelli
