Continuing Legacy ... Building the Future

St. Joseph Educational Ministries (SJEM) continues the inspiring ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph, ensuring Catholic identity and the Sisters of St. Joseph's mission that all may be one. SJEM's weekly communication provides our educational charism community with inspiration, news, school spotlights, and resources for formation and reflection.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SJEM

Today marks 6 years since SJEM's designation as a ministerial public juridic person of the Catholic Church. What a gift and a blessing to serve Catholic education through sponsorship, on behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph, into the future.

News & Spotlights

SJEM Welcomes Cathy Schroy, PhD, CSJA

as new Assistant Director

Dr. Cathy Schroy, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, is an alumna of St. Joseph’s Academy and Fontbonne University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Deaf Education from Fontbonne and early in her career taught at St. Joseph Hearing + Speech when it was St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf. Her dedication to the field led her back to academia, where she pursued a master’s degree in audiology and later a Ph.D. from Washington University. Most recently, Cathy served as a faculty member in the Communication Disorders and Deaf Education Department at Fontbonne University. Following the university’s closure, she has continued to support Fontbonne by assisting with administrative transition efforts.

In 2024, Cathy became an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Deeply committed to her faith and community, Cathy is an active member of her parish, participating in the ACTS ministry and helping to establish an English/Spanish conversational group. This initiative fosters mutual learning and cultural connection between English- and Spanish-speaking parishioners as well as using her language teaching roots learned at Fontbonne and St. Joseph Hearing + Speech.

Cathy is excited to be joining the SJEM team and continuing the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph! Cathy will begin her ministry with SJEM beginning February 2nd and we look forward to introducing her to all of our SJEM community.
