Principal Newsletter
Dear Saint Joseph Parents,

This week the eighth grade class attended Cathedral Day at the Cathedral of Christ the LIght with other eighth grade classes in the Diocese. It is a tradition for the Oakland Diocese to invite all eighth grade classes to celebrate Mass with Bishop Barber. During our time at the Cathedral, Bishop Barber spoke of Mary, our Mother.  He reminded the students that Mary, our blessed Mother will always be there for us in good times and bad times.

In the Catholic Church, October is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. Specifically on October 7, we celebrate the feast day of Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary. Our students will participate all month in Marian activities and learning. They will be taught how to pray the Rosary, the history of the Rosary and the importance of its prayer. This month’s Faith Family activity will be to make a “hand rosary”. We will also have a Living Rosary on October 24 at 1:00 pm in the school yard. I invite all parents to join us and pray the Rosary with us.

There will also be many parish activities surrounding Mary. We invite everyone to participate or volunteer for these community events.

  • 31 Days of Rosary. Monday through Friday at 7:30 am and 7:00 pm; Saturday Vigil and Sunday: 20 minutes before Mass.

  • 33 Days to Morning Glory by Father Michael Gaitley, MIC This book is a popular do-it-yourself retreat in preparation for Marian Consecration that you can on your own, with your family and friends or with your ministry. The book is now available at the Parish Office for a minimum donation of $5. Proceeds will go to the Pastoral Care Ministry’s Senior Luncheon event. There will also be a gathering at the Parish Center every Friday at 8:45 am for prayer, reflection and sharing based on this book. (Coordinator: Felix Marquez)
  • Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima: 5 families have been selected to host the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima for the month of October. Weekly exchange will happen at Sunday Masses. If your family or ministry is interested in hosting the remaining weeks from November through September 2019, please contact the church office..
  • Our Lady of Fatima Procession on Saturday, October 13 after the 5:00 pm Mass, followed by Eucharistic Exposition and Blessing. We will email your ministry separately on the program and the certain tasks.

God’s and Mother Mary’s Blessings on Each of Us,

Dr. Marquita Yriarte
