Dynamic Alum Drew Phelps Running for State Assembly
Young and dynamic are just a couple of adjectives that describe Drew Phelps, San Joaquin Memorial alum (Class of 2012). Other words would be kind, caring, passionate, innovative, service-oriented, trustworthy and the list goes on and on. These special qualities and more have catapulted this young man into the political arena; he is currently running for a seat in the State Assembly representing District 26 Tulare County.

Strategic Plan Update: Admissions
Article by: Rainey Lewis
This is the second in a series of updates regarding San Joaquin Memorial’s 5-year Strategic Plan initiative for 2015-2020.
Several goals for SJM’s Strategic Plan for the Admissions Department have been met over the past few years. Communication and relationship building opportunities with our partner schools have continued to grow. Last year, we had a successful Middle School Visit Day with seven partner schools in attendance. This year we are happy to report that 10 partner schools and an additional Christian school will be sending their 8
th
graders to our newly introduced 8
th
Grade Preview Days. Each of those schools was visited by Admissions representatives last year where they heard a presentation about SJM. Appointments are being scheduled for this year as well.

Alumni Scholarship Fund Created
San Joaquin Memorial alumni have the storied reputation of being generous givers. When asked to show their support for various endeavors, Memorial graduates rise to the occasion.
With that said, the Advancement Office has created a new SJM Alumni Scholarship Fund that will benefit current students who need financial assistance in order to continue their high school experience at Memorial.
As an alumnus, you know that your scholarship donation will make a lasting impact on the lives of Memorial students. So, once again, we are asking our alumni to rise to the occasion and donate to the newly created Alumni Scholarship Fund by contacting Kenyeih Williams at kwilliams@sjmhs.org or (559) 475-5841.
