St. Johns Clean Up Day Success!
Thank you to the many neighbors who came out April 28th for the St. Johns Neighborhood Association annual Spring Clean event.

We were able to help over 350 neighbors dispose of bulk recyclables and refuse throughout the day. By 2:30 we hit capacity! In total, we collected:
  • 36,000 pounds of general trash
  • 6,000 pounds of cardboard recyclables
  • 1 ton of mixed metals
  • 12,000 pounds of wood debris
  • 500 pounds of household batteries
  • 450 CFL light bulbs
  • 27 tires
  • 64 computers, monitors, and TVs
  • 200+ gallons of paint
  • 2 truck loads of styrofoam

We'd like to especially thank our event sponsors—the Port of Portland for their generous $1,500 donation, as well as EVRAZ for their must appreciated $250 donation.

Another big thanks to our local neighborhood sponsors for their in-kind donations and event support: Fred Meyer, Dub's St. Johns, St. Johns Coffee Roasters, Cathedral Coffee, Starbucks, Signal Station, Dominos Pizza, Leisure Public House, Occidental Brewing, Darco Painting, Sundling Construction, St. Johns Bachelors Club, St. Johns Boosters, St. Johns Christian Church, and the St. Johns Review.

We'd also like to thank the 21 volunteers for helping make this event such a success!

In total, we raised over $3,000 for the St. John Neighborhood Association which supports SJNAs ongoing work throughout the year.

SJNA Grants $250 for Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Neighbors Helping Neighbors PDX is a small group of North Portland Peninsula community volunteers who come together to bridge the gap between housed and houseless neighbors by providing trash removal for houseless encampments (tents, cars, RVs) as well as provide sandwiches, water and seasonally appropriate clothing when available.

Their goals:
  1. reduce friction between neighbors
  2. improve neighborhood livability
  3. provide a safer and healthier environment for unsheltered folks
  4. encourage interaction and mutual respect between our neighbors.

Houseless Defense Hotline

After the wake of several act arson against houseless neighbors in the St. Johns community, a hotline has been set up to provide emergency assistance for houseless neighbors at risk.

All neighbors are encouraged to be mindful and watchful of houseless community members. Establish connections and familiarities with your houseless neighbors. A close knit community is a safe and healthy community.

Neighbors are also advised to report any suspicious activity. DO NOT APPROACH ALONE. Instead, call authorities or the hotline to report any and all concerns. Donations always welcome.
