Dear Parents and Students:
At Mass on Sunday at my home parish of St. Joan of Arc, Father Ray, the Pastor, preached a powerful homily on Bishop Barber’s recently released statement concerning the 45 priests, deacons, and brothers in the Diocese of Oakland who have been credibly accused of sexual misconduct against minors. Father Ray did not mince words and shared his shame on behalf of his fellow priests who abhor the tragedy of clergy sexual abuse across our country. If you wish to view the list, you can go the Diocese Of Oakland website.
As parents, you should know that all teachers, staff and coaches at SJND are mandated to undergo a background check, fingerprinting, and receive annual training on safety with minors. The protection of our children is the highest priority of our high school.
The Gospel reading this past Sunday was a very challenging one: the Golden Rule, turn the other cheek, don’t judge lest you be judged, the measure by which you measure others will be the measure held against you - very demanding ethical measures by Jesus himself. It is always a reminder to me that the challenge of living an authentic Christian life is very rigorous and not for the faint of heart. “Not to judge” - I do it a lot.
In the end, during these very turbulent times for the Catholic Church, I am always reminded by the Gospel each Sunday that the only way forward is to pick up the Cross of Jesus and walk with Him so that we can embrace the Golden Rule as it applies to our daily living. Please pray for all of us who serve as teachers and administrators for your sons and daughters that we may model and live up to the expectations of Christ - the Master Teacher.
On a more positive note, this is an extraordinary week at SJND. I hope that all members of the SJND community can come out and support our Theater program under the direction of the very talented Mrs. Rosi. The

Also this week, the SJND Basketball teams will make their appearance in the next round of the playoffs. The
Men’s Basketball Team
