Message From the Principal


Dear St. Jerome Regional School Family,



May God bless you with peace and joy as we celebrate Jesus' birth. May the spirit of Christmas be with you throughout the new year. The faculty and staff of SJRS extend wishes to you and your families for a holy, healthy and Happy New Year and we pray for God’s blessings in 2025.


As a reminder, Christmas Break is December 2oth at 12:00 to January 3rd. There is no school on December 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31 and January 1st, 2nd and 3rd. School reopens January 6th. 


We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and that you enjoy the extra time with your families!

Just some of the highlights during the month of December are listed below: (Be sure to check our Facebook page for more pictures and videos!)



  • Deacon Joe Cannon visited us for our Advent Wreath Lighting Service.


  • We all enjoyed Christmas Dress Down Days while also shopping at Santa's Secret Shop!


  • The students enjoyed shopping for their families at the Santa's Secret Shop. Thank you to the HSA for coordinating this! Thank you also to all of the volunteers who helped make this event special! 


  • 5th-8th Grade had fun at the Christmas Dance.


  • Our K-8th Grade students performed in three Christmas Performances for all of our families and friends. They did a wonderful job! Thanks to all of our families that attended. All of the students in grades K-8 participated in the Christmas Program. It was a beautiful show (all three days)! Thank you to Mr. Cressley for organizing the entire show! Thank you to all of our staff for helping to make this a success! 


  • Our Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade classes celebrated St. Nicholas Day and received sweets and treats in their shoes!


  • The school halls were decorated beautifully for the Christmas season!


  • We celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.


  • Our Mission Campaign titled “Christmas Time” brought in 364 items. These were then delivered to two local food banks, one in Schuylkill County and one in Carbon County. What a great way to spread Holiday Cheer. Thank you to all who generously donated items. You helped make someone’s Christmas special. 


  • Our Preschool Christmas show was fantastic. Thank you to all of our preschool families who were able to come watch the show and thank you to Mrs. Mohammed and Mrs. VanWickle for organizing this!


  • Thank you so much to everyone for their generous donations during the month of December! May God bless you for your generosity during this Christmas Season.


Looking ahead:



  • There is a dress down day on Tuesday, January 21st to support SJR CYO Programs. Please consider donating $1 or more for the CYO.


  • No School for students on January 20th and there is a 12:00 Dismissal on January 31st.


  • Catholic Schools Week is January 26th-January 31st. Please see the CSW Flyer below for more details.


  • Financial Aid for 2025-2026 School Year opens on January 6th. It closes May 2nd. Please be sure to apply before it closes.


  • The 2025 Bishop Scholar Applications were distributed to all 8th Grade Students on December 16th (Emailed through OptionC to all families and a hard copy was also sent home with the students). Applications are due by January 17th to the school. Thank you.


Christian of the Month

The Christian of the Month Award recognizes students who display good character on a consistent basis and serve as student role models throughout the month. Students are nominated by their teachers based on the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Students chosen to receive this award will be acknowledged for their accomplishment in the monthly newsletter. Students will receive a dress down pass, Christian of the Month Certificate and Applebee's certificate. The students will be recognized in the monthly newsletter.

This month's preschool Christian of the Month is Mitchell Hinkle. Mitchell is a sweet, loving and gentle student. He is always looking to help his fellow peers and love being a teachers helper. He is very deserving of the award because Mitchell always takes the initiative to complete any task that is asked of him. He follows through, giving it his all and always strives for excellence. He truly enjoys playing with his friends at school and his brothers at home. During his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer and T-ball. Congratulations, Mitchell!


Amelia Garvey is Kindergarten Blue's December Christian of the Month. Amelia comes to school every day with a positive attitude. She is an eager student who participates fully in every part of our school day. Amelia always tries her very best in everything that she does. Amelia is such a kind friend to others around her. She truly cares about everyone and goes out of her way to make sure that others are cared for and included. Amelia brings lots of joy to our classroom. When she is not in school, Amelia participates in the Remade by Dance studio where she has been dancing since the age of 2. In her free time Amelia loves to be with her family and her two puppies, Luna and River. She enjoys crafting and anything Disney. Way to go, Amelia! 


Peyton Hinkle is Kindergarten Gold’s Christian of the Month for December. Peyton is a wonderful friend in our classroom! He sets a good example for others and always does his best. Peyton loves to participate in class and be helpful to his teachers any chance he can. He is very kind, generous and thoughtful. He also is good at cheering up his friends and making the whole class laugh! Peyton is also an awesome big brother to his little brothers Mitchell and Bennett. Outside of school, he participates in t-ball and soccer and loves to challenge others to a game of chess or tic tac toe. We are so proud of all he has done! Congratulations, Peyton!


First Grade Blue's Christian of the month is Fox Bachert! Fox is a kind, caring, and helpful student. He always comes to class prepared and ready to learn, and he’s always there to lend a hand to his friends. His positive attitude makes our classroom a better place! When he’s not in school, Fox stays busy with lots of fun activities. He plays soccer with the Tamaqua Youth Soccer Association, where he’s a great team player. He’s also studying karate and has earned his white belt with a yellow stripe! On top of that, Fox loves swimming and riding his mountain bike—he’s always up for an adventure!

We’re so proud of Fox for showing what it means to be a thoughtful and hardworking student. Keep up the awesome work, Fox! 


First Grade Gold Christian of the Month is Nora O'Grodnick. Nora works hard in school and always tries her best. She loves to learn and completes her work neatly. She is a kind and caring friend. Nora is super friendly and brings smiles to everyone around her. Nora loves to learn about Jesus and she loves her family! Outside of school, Nora participates on the SJRS Lions Cross Country Team. She has been taking piano lessons for the past year and takes dance lessons at Anna Marie School of Dance in Hazleton. Nora also helps at her church, Weatherly Faith Church, with the kids worship team. Way to go Nora! We are proud of you!


The Christian of the Month in Grade 2 Blue is Nicole Caparro. Nicole is always polite and well-mannered. She has been a great helper for one of the new students in our school. She always makes sure he knows what we are doing and what the school routines are. Nicole looks out for him, jumping in to help him whenever he is struggling. She has been doing this for weeks without one complaint and without being told to do it. Nicole is a great example of recognizing when someone needs help and jumping in, and not expecting any rewards in return. Outside of school, Nicole takes dance at the Dance Factory II. At home, she is very helpful to her Mom and Dad. She is very loving to her pups Colt & Rocky, her cat Lily, and her two guinea pigs Oreo & Brownie. She loves the beach and swimming. Nicole enjoys swinging on her swings and playing with her friends. Congratulations, Nicole!


The second-grade gold Christian of the Month for December is Giada Carsia. Giada is a good student and a hard worker. She enjoys contributing to class discussions and always tries her best. Giada lends a hand to help classmates and with classroom jobs. When she is not in school, she plays softball with VRGS-Valley Regional Softball Team S. A. S. Giada also enjoys reading, swimming, doing gymnastics, and spending time with her family.


The SJRS Christian of the Month in 3rd Grade Blue for the month of December is Bear Stetz. In the classroom, Bear is prepared, on task, and participates. He asks questions and is eager to learn new things. He is curious, fun and kind-hearted. He very much enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Bear plays as a defenseman and a forward for the Dragons and Kings street hockey teams. His favorite hockey team is the Penguins. He likes to ice skate and roller blade. He loves learning about history, especially the Civil War. A few things he enjoys are art, drawing, and playing with his dog, Nancy. Thank you, Bear, for displaying good character and serving as a role model. We are very proud of you!


The Christian of the Month for 3rd grade for the month of December is Mia Solis. Mia is active in SJRS CYO Basketball and the Weatherly Youth Soccer League. She is also an altar server at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mia loves to ride horses at JG Equines and is a member of the Zion’s Kids Club. Mia is sweet, kind, smart, thoughtful, and so very helpful. Her parents feel so blessed to have her! In the classroom, Mia is a hard-worker, respectful, and a great friend to have. Congratulations Mia!


Fourth grade's Christian of the Month for December is Kennedy Sabol. Kennedy is a kind, compassionate, hardworking student. She is always looking to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She is an active participant in all her classes. Outside of school, Kennedy plays CYO girls basketball. She is also actively involved at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center in the children’s plays. Currently, she has been cast in the production "Beauty and the Beast Jr" as Narrator #1. She was also in "Frozen Jr" and "The Descendants Jr." In past years, she was in "The Wizard of Oz" at Marian, as a munchkin . She plays piano and the trumpet. She loves spending time with her family and friends. Congratulations, Kennedy! We are so proud of you! 


Brielle Hannis-Miskar is the Christian of the Month for Grade 5 Blue. At school, Brielle is a responsible and organized student who consistently completes her assignments neatly and thoroughly. She is always eager to volunteer to help teachers and other students and often looks for opportunities to support her classmates. Outside of school, Brielle enjoys spending time with friends and family, shopping, going to parks, watching the Flyers, and cheering on her sister, Brooke, who plays basketball for Marian Catholic.  Brielle is a member of the SJR CYO Volleyball Team and Basketball Team. She is an amazing sister to Brynn (4th grade) and Brooke (Sophomore at Marian Catholic). Brielle is a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Shenandoah. Congratulations, Brielle! We are so proud of you!


Landen Yanett is 5th grade gold's Christian of the Month for December. Landen is a very kind and respectful student. He is a friend to all of his classmates and likes to help out when needed. Landen is an avid soccer player, playing on the Tamaqua Area Youth Soccer Association U-11 team as a midfielder, defender and goalie. Landen loves to spend his free time fishing, focusing on catching bass. Landen attends St. Ambrose Parish in Schuylkill Haven. Congratulations Landen!


Brianna Heater is the 6th Grade Christian of the Month for December. Brianna is a consistent honor roll student who strives daily to do her best. She is polite, attentive, and conscientious. Her favorite subject is social studies. Brianna is a very kind and caring person. She recently placed second in the 2024 McAdoo Peace Poster Contest. Outside of school Brianna is a member of the SJRS volleyball program. She attends programs at the Tamaqua Arts Center. Brianna loves swimming, arts and crafts, going to the beach, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She is a great big sister to her brother, Brayden. Congratulations, Brianna!


Gavin Woodring is the 7th Grade Christian of the Month. Gavin is a conscientious student who achieved First Honors for 1st Trimester. He is always courteous and polite when speaking with teachers and staff members, as well as, interacting with classmates. As a saxophone player, Gavin has been a member of the SJRS Blue and Gold Band for four years. He has also taken piano lessons for eight years with Demelfi School of Music. Gavin was selected to audition for Carnegie Hall in 2025 playing a classical piano piece. Gavin plays guard on the Marian Junior High Basketball team. He plays 3rd base, pitcher and 2nd base for Valley East Babe Ruth Baseball and a travel team. Gavin has an orange belt in karate. Gavin has taken Spanish lessons for 8 years and participated in Wreaths Across America. He enjoys sports, music, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his

family and friends. To know Gavin is to love him! He is an amazing son and big brother. We are always so proud of him. Congratulations, Gavin!


The 8th Grade Christian of the Month is Ryan Metters. In school, Ryan is always ready to learn. He comes prepared and excited about the day. He exhibits Christian values in his interaction with other students. He's kind and caring. Outside of school, Ryan throws shot put and discus for Marian's Jr. High Track and Field team. He's also heavily involved in the Tamaqua Community Art Center's Center Stage Theater and has performed in several plays including Frozen Jr., and Descendants. He currently has the role of "Gaston" in the theater's Beauty and the Beast Jr play. Ryan's family describes him as independent and trustworthy. He loves science and biology and is passionate about animals. One day, he hopes to attend college for animal studies and research.

Gift Certificates and Scrip Certificates           

These are great ways to help with tuition costs. If you have any questions, please call the office. Many people are saving hundreds of dollars in tuition by purchasing certificates. Certificates are sold from the school office daily during school hours and scrip orders are taken on Tuesdays.


Tuition Chance

This year we will again sell tuition chances to help you win money toward your tuition bill. The chances are $1 each, and paper slips are in the family envelope. If you want to purchase the chance, fill out the slip and enclose money in an envelope marked tuition chance. This is not a fundraiser. All money collected will be awarded to the winning student’s tuition account. If your tuition is fully paid, credit will be applied to next year’s bill. The winner for December is Sianna Labert 1-Gold. The amount of tuition credit is $140. Thank you to all who took chances. Slips are enclosed for next month’s drawing which will be on January 28th.

We encourage all parents to get involved with Home and School. We will need much help, especially this year with our fundraising efforts. We encourage everyone to share ideas with HSA.

Your Tax Dollars can help SJRS 


Everyone has to pay taxes and typically your tax dollar’s fall into four main buckets; Welfare, Infrastructure (roads), Prison Systems, or Public Schools. The great thing about joining our program is it allows you to direct your tax dollars to St. Jerome Regional School. Donors are able to make a direct impact to their community through their tax dollars; they can come into your school any day and see the people they are impacting.

For additional help, please contact your school principal- Amy Hannis-Miskar, who will be able to put you in touch with the Program Manager for Scholarships in the Diocese of Allentown.  

The faculty, staff and administration ask for your continued prayers, support, cooperation and dedication to Catholic education. If you have any questions or concerns, you can call the school office at 570-668-2757.
