SJRS Monthly Newsletter -May 2019
Saint Jerome Regional School
"Living Fearlessly Through Faith..."
Message From The Principal
Dear St. Jerome Family,
There are a lot of fun events planned at SJRS during the last few weeks of school. As we approach this busy and exciting time of the school year, we need to remember that it is equally important for our students to remain focused on their academics and continue to build on their learning. Parents and Guardians can help us by encouraging their children to work hard, to keep motivation levels at their highest, and to be responsible about completing all of their school work. We know that school success is based on teamwork and we appreciate your role as a valuable member of your child’s educational team.
The month of May is very special because it is the month dedicated to our mother, Mary. During May we ask Mary to intercede for us as we pray a decade of the rosary together every morning. Our intentions will be for all of our families, especially our mothers and grandmothers. A paper was sent home asking you to please list the names of any mothers, grandmothers, aunts or godmothers that you would like us to pray for during the month dedicated to our mother, Mary. Names will be announced daily in each classroom during the month. May we always stay close to Jesus through his mother, Mary. Happy Mother’s Day.  God bless you.
Blessings,
Mrs. Amy M. Hannis-Miskar, Principal

Some of the highlights during the month of April are listed below:

-Many of our 8th grade students received the sacrament of Confirmation.
-Students in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 took the IOWA tests.
-The scholastic book fair was here at SJRS for the Spring.
-Our students took part in weekly stations and the Living Stations on April 10th.
-7th Grade students visited Marian Catholic High School for the day on the 12th.
-The Knights of Columbus had received on loan from the St. John Vianney Shrine, Ars, France, the saint’s “incorrupt heart” for a national pilgrimage of the United States. In June, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI declared “The Year of the Priest” in honor of St. John Vianney’s 150th anniversary of his death. When his body was exhumed to be entombed in the Shrine’s altar, it was discovered to be incorrupt. This tour of the patron saint of parish priests highlights efforts for repentance, reform, and renewal in the Church’s current situation. St. John Vianney’s heart visited Marian Catholic High School on the 12th and our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade were able to visit. It was a great experience.
-Students enjoyed the The Brain Show with their classmates and teachers on April 16th during the school day as a special treat! SJRS Families enjoyed the Brain Show during the evening as a Family Fun Event for all.
-7th and 8th grade visited the Reading Museum for their field trip on April 22nd.
-Mid-Trimester Progress Reports were distributed today, Wednesday, the 24th.

-We look forward to welcoming our new kindergarten students for their first official visit to SJRS on Kindergarten screening day later this week! We are all so excited to have them join us next year.
-The 5th-8th grade luau dance is this Friday, from 6-8pm.

25 Tables were recently donated to SJRS by an anonymous donor. We are so appreciative for the generosity of our families and community!

Thank you to Billie Jo Wetterau and Family for keeping our front entrance planter area looking beautiful and welcoming all year round.

Thank you to Mr. Jeff Kluck and Family and Saint Jerome Regional CYO for their donations towards updating our security systems at SJRS. Thanks to their generous donations, we were able to upgrade our security system for the exterior doors and the door for the STEM lab.

Thank you to Ms. Barb Lawson for her donation of the K'nex building kits for student use in our STEM Lab.

Thank you to our HSA members and to all of our volunteers who helped with the High Stakes Bingo. So many people helped to make this event a huge success. SAVE YOUR SODA TABS
The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House supports families of seriously ill children by creating a community of comfort and hope. The programs include two Ronald McDonald Houses in West and North Philadelphia, three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at local hospitals. At every House, families get home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, playrooms for children, and daily activities for the children and their families. All this is provided at a minimal or no cost donation. Here at SJRS, some of our families have found comfort and support for their families at these facilities. The Ronald McDonald Houses depend on charitable contributions to provide families with the support they need. One of their sources of donations comes from aluminum can tabs. We will be collecting these at our school for the remainder of the year. A member of the SJRS family will take the tabs to the Ronald McDonald house in Philadelphia. Thank you for your support.

Protecting God's Children and Mandated Reporter Trainings
An updated list of Protecting God's Children and Mandated Reporter Training sessions are listed on the Diocese of Allentown Website at http://www.allentowndiocese.org/youth-protection . Details are also listed for each location.

Class Trips and Clearances
Many classroom trips are being planned for the spring. If you are interested in going on these trips, you must have all of your clearances. Please do not wait to start the process of getting your clearances. That way, when the letter comes home about the trip, you will already have the clearance paperwork completed.

Parents wishing to join their children on field trips will need to get their clearances as soon as possible. If we don't have it on file in the school office , we cannot include it in your list of completed clearances. Thank you.

T he Diocese of Allentown has updated the Code of Conduct and so volunteers must read the new version on line at www.allentowndiocese.com and sign a new Code of Conduct Acknowledgement form. This is mandatory to keep your clearances up to date.
