Dear Parents-
It’s
Catholic Schools Week
, a nation-wide celebration of Catholic education, and an excellent time to reflect on the benefits of Catholic schools. We celebrate the ability to freely share our faith in a community built on mutual trust and respect for all members. Parents and teachers form strong partnerships to benefit the whole child, and students learn to be accountable members of their families, their school, and ultimately to society. At St. Joseph we are blessed to have the spiritual leadership of our Friars, the amazing talents of our teachers, and the commitment of our parents to create a community like no other! There is no better place to be than St. Joseph Catholic School! Also, please take a moment to listen to Bishop Burbidge’s Catholic Schools Week message, shared with the Diocese:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF2ZaPAE_nM
I was able to listen to our
8th graders
as they practiced their speeches and prepped for Masses this past weekend. I have to take a minute to say how impressed I was with these students. Each speech was so heartfelt as the students shared what made SJS so important to them. The messages were so authentic and heartfelt … I know some parents must have needed a few tissues as these students expressed their sincere thank you to SJS, and while they recognized that the time to move on draws near, each student has so many cherished memories. I am so proud of these students...really, truly amazing!
The CSW list of activities is available to you here. Please note that students can
dress out
on
Wednesday, January 29
, (wear red, white and blue shirts as we celebrate our nation), and again on
Thursday, January 30,
(wear SJS spirit wear shirts, as we celebrate our Friars and Seminarians). Students must wear SJS PE sweatpants or denim blue jeans. NO OTHER OPTIONS! Please do not send children to school in leggings, or anything else. SJS PE sweatpants or denim blue jeans….that’s it. No holes. All aspects of the dress code are in effect including requirements regarding hair, make-up, shoes, etc.
➤ Don’t forget!!!
Wednesday, January 29 is SJS Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A!!
Feed the entire family, and support our amazing school at the same time, by eating at Chick-fil-A, Village Commons, 12160 Sunset Hills Rd,
in Reston, from 5:00-8:00 pm. Make sure to take with you the flyer found below, so that SJS gets credit!
We have passed the half-way mark of the school year, and are at the midpoint of the second trimester. Please make sure you log on to
PowerSchool
and check your child’s progress. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please reach out to your child’s teacher. There is plenty of time left in the trimester for meaningful change!
This is also
Scantron Week 3
, and students will test on Language Arts. As usual, please have children in school, on time, to ensure sufficient time to complete the tests. If you have scheduling questions, please contact your child’s teachers. Scantron reports will be sent home as soon as possible.
Reminder…..
The
Science Fair
is on the calendar for February 6, and we need 55 judges to make this event as successful as possible for our students. If you would like to act as a judge, please access the information and sign up website at
http://sjssciencefair.org/
. Your time is greatly appreciated. The students put a great deal of effort into this milestone event and they really need you!!
Mark your calendars for Friday, February 7 and join Mrs. Henry and me for
Coffee with the Principal
. Mrs. Henry will lead a discussion on gratitude and effective ways to help our children develop a sense of gratitude. A healthy understanding of the importance of being grateful is a key element in the social-emotional learning so important for healthy relationships and a positive school climate. Let’s collaborate on ways to inspire gratitude!
As always, if you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!
(Rom 15:7)
