Dear Parents-
As October winds down, we anticipate the
feast of All Saints,
the day we celebrate the saints of the church, including all those who have made it to heaven, whether a known saint or not! Last Friday the faculty and staff participated in a spiritual retreat with a focus on the call to holiness. During the retreat, we were reminded that all of us are called to be saints. Yes, we are all born sinners, but the road to heaven is paved with
small things done with great love.
If you have time, search the lives of Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi and Maria Corsini, a married couple who lived ordinary lives, raising their family. When Pope John Paul II proclaimed them Venerable, he explained,
"Among the joys and anxieties of a normal family, they knew how to live an extraordinarily rich spiritual life. At the center of their life was the daily Eucharist as well as devotion to the Virgin Mary, to whom they prayed every evening with the Rosary.” It is remarkable and humbling to realize that our individual path to sainthood and heaven is within our own control...and it can be realized with small actions!
Remember that Friday, November 1 is the feast of All Saints, and a holy day of obligation.
School Mass will begin at 9:00
, and all are welcome to attend. Please remember that for the safety of all our school children, the church doors will lock promptly at 9:00, and no one will gain entry once the doors have been locked. We also look forward to the parade of saints as presented by our wonderful 4th grade!
Again, thank you to all who participated in the
DFE Survey
. Inadvertently, one question was omitted from the original survey...
“Student Support Services, such as the clinic/health, counseling, resource programs, help to meet the needs of my student.”
If you would like to respond to this question please complete the form at this link:

The next
Coffee with the Principal
is scheduled for Friday, November 1, immediately after carpool. Mrs. Henry will join me and the topic is
Transitions and Social Emotional Learning in grades K-2
. Due to the early Mass time, we must end our conversation by 8:30. Next month, Mrs. Farrell will join me to discuss vaping and other dangers students face. Please use
this link
to access an alert from Fairfax County Health Department regarding “vapping” and “dabbing.”
Please consider making a
commitment to help out at lunch or recess
- even one day a week - is an enormous contribution! Recess starts at 11:15 and ends at 12:55. Lunch starts at 11:40 and ends at 1:15. Please consider covering a shift. For more information, please contact Laura Stump at
lstump@sjcherndon.org
. Some positions are paid.
I mentioned last week with respect to
extended day,
and have to reiterate, that if you
plan to have your child drop in
on a particular day, please contact Mrs. Lisk by noon of that day. For licensing purposes, we are required to maintain specific ratios of students to adults, and it is difficult for Mrs. Lisk to adequately staff if she is unsure of student count. No students should drop in unless they are already registered as a drop in student. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Lisk at
extended_day@sjschoolva.org
.
Quiet week, this week, but please add to your reminder app on your phone:
Friday, November 1
8:00 Coffee with the Principal….and Mrs. Henry
9:00 Feast of All Saints Mass
As always, if you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!

Be a part of something—be a Scout
JOIN CUB SCOUTS! Scouts is a year-round family program and boys in grades K-5 can join anytime of the year. Our Pack has exciting events with activities that are fun for kids and the entire family. Our Cubs learn about important life skills, personal safety and environmental stewardship. They take part in fun outdoor activities, get involved in their community, and learn to be part of a team. There is something for every boy—outdoor skills, crafts, sports, hikes, skits & songs, camping, ship/submarine visits, history hikes, pinewood derby, camaraderie and just plain fun.
