Dear Parents-
As we enter the month of November, we start to turn our thoughts to the holidays, and all the prepping and planning for big family meals, and all the gift-giving, as well. Some of us are already in a slight panic that we will not be ready on time! It is also a perfect time of year to reflect on Catholic social teaching, and how we answer the call to holiness...doing small things with great love, including remembering those who are food insecure, and those who are without warmth and shelter.
If possible, please consider participating in the
Scouting for Food Drive,
sponsored by Boy Scout Pack 913, by donating non-perishable food items that will support families in need in the Herndon community. The drive ends Friday. See ad below.
It is not too late to
register for our 5K race
, held this coming Saturday, November 9. In addition, please join us at the Walking With Saints kick-off event, immediately after school on Thursday, November 7, on the track. And, if all that isn’t exciting enough, we have a “Race to Register” contest, the class with the most registrations wins an extra recess!! Don’t miss out on this fun event!!
October saw many parents take time to come have
lunch with students.
Everyone reports great fun and enthusiasm, and I am so glad a good time was had by all! We will look at the calendar and find time in the spring to invite parents back, to enjoy time with their children during the school day.
Next Monday, November 11 is
conference day
, as is Tuesday afternoon, November 12. As I mentioned over the summer, this change in calendar is at the direction of the Office of Catholic Schools, and we do our part to comply. Hopefully, parents will find this schedule more convenient than the previous format. If you have not already scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact the teacher.
A tip of the hat to Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Kohler and the entire
4th grade
for their impressive Parade of Saints performance. Students dressed in costumes representing their favorite saints, and each student gave a brief description of the saint’s life and ministry. No matter how many times I hear about the life of a saint, I always learn something new!!
There has been some confusion in the parking lot during
afternoon carpool
. Please remember that only low profile sedans should enter the first three lines of cars. If you drive an SUV, or a crossover, or a truck, or a van, or any other high profile vehicle, please do not use the first three lines, closest to the school. It is not possible to see over or around high profile vehicles, making it difficult for students to find their cars. Only low profile cars may use the first three lines.
Please consider making a
commitment to help out at lunch or recess
- even one day a week - is an enormous contribution! Recess starts at 11:15 and ends at 12:55. Lunch starts at 11:40 and ends at 1:15. Please consider covering a shift. For more information, please contact Laura Stump at
[email protected]
. Some positions are paid.
We are also looking to increase our list of
substitute nurses
. If you, or someone you know, is a registered nurse, and are available on an “as needed- substitute” basis, please let me know.
As always, if you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!
