Bernie's Bark
11.10.2020
Dear Parents-

Tomorrow we celebrate Veterans Day, and honor military veterans...all those who served in the United States Armed Forces, whether in war or peace, dead or alive, although the day primarily serves as a day of thanks to living veterans for all their sacrifices. At SJS this day was celebrated by inviting veterans to Mass and then to a breakfast served in the Hall. Our 8th grade students would act as hosts and it was always so heart-warming to watch the interactions between students and vets…..we look forward to a covid-free return to such events!

Bishop Burbidge awarded all schools in the Diocese a day of rest, and SJS will add a day-off to the calendar. Friday, December 11, St. Joseph Catholic School will be closed. Bishop Burbidge shared, As an expression of my great gratitude for the work of all our Catholic educators and for students who have adapted so well to new requirements, I grant you a “Bishop’s Holiday” – a day off from school for your community. Bishop Burbidge offered profound thanks and continued prayerful support.

The coronavirus continues to spread throughout our region, and our country, with 126,400 new cases reported on Friday alone! The positivity rate in Virginia is up to 7.5%. The number of new cases indicates that the potential for an outbreak continues to grow, according to COVIDactnow.com. Fairfax County test positivity rate is also up, now at 5.73%; neighboring Loudoun County has a positivity rate of 6.3%, and Prince William County is at 7.3% positivity rate. Websites that track the virus indicate COVID in Fairfax County is at risk of an outbreak. As always, I remind our families to wear masks, wash hands, keep distance and avoid crowds. Please be careful and I thank you for your commitment to keeping the school community safe by minimizing unnecessary social contact.

Many thanks to you from Baby Bottles of Hope! Students collected money in baby bottles throughout the duration of the campaign. Funds raised allows Hope to continue caring for mothers, babies, and life. Bottles are still being collected and as soon as we have a tally, I will share!

Conferences are underway. Please remember that these are designed to be relatively short meetings. If you need extended time, please reach out to the teacher to schedule another conference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
