Bernie's Bark
11.12.2019
Dear Parents-

Tomorrow we celebrate the feast of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini , who is known as the first American saint, having become a citizen in 1909, after immigrating to the US in 1889. Mother Cabrini is considered to be the patron saint of immigrants, and it seems so fitting to celebrate her at this time of year, when we reflect back on the immigration journeys our ancestors took, as well as those who feasted with the native people in a celebration of Thanksgiving! Even today, many people venerate Mother Cabrini by inviting immigrants to their homes to celebrate with a big Italian dinner!!

A truly heartfelt thank you to all who participated in the SJS 5k Race and 1mile Fun Run ..and a well-deserved shout-out to the PTO and especially to Mrs. Dechant for organizing this fun event. Over 300 registered participants braved the 26° race-time temperatures! There was great fun and great fellowship, and as I walked back to my car, the group around me were excitedly chatting about “hardly wait til next year!”

Pack 913 extends deepest thanks to all who were able to donate to the Scouting for Food drive. SJS families donated nearly 80 bags of food, and the troop was able to collect an additional 60 bags from our Herndon neighbors. Through the generosity of all, Pack 913 was able to donate 1,114 pounds of food to help feed the area families supported by LINK this season. Good job, Scouts!

If your child missed picture day in September, or if you need a make-up picture , Provine will be at school on Thursday, Nov. 14th for individual make up pictures. Yesterday, you should have received an email with information on the new re-enrollment process. With our 93% retention rate, it is reasonable to streamline our re-enrollment processes. The process is restructured so that current students will be automatically re-enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year. Enrollment fees will be charged on February 1, 2020 from the FACTS account on file . If, for some reason, your student will not be returning to St. Joseph Catholic School, notification in writing is needed by January 15, 2020 . We are confident that you will find this expedited and recurring re-enrollment process helpful. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Millon ([email protected] or 703-880-4355) in the Business Office.

Don’t forget to place your December lunch orders ! You can order lunch for your children through our school lunch program, in conjunction with Fairfax Food Service. Use this link to access directions from Fairfax Food Service. Remember to place your order no later than the 28th of each month!
