Bernie's Bark
Dear Parents-
Happy Advent!
In this beautiful season of Advent we take time to prepare for the coming of Our Savior! It is a time to share time honored Catholic traditions with the next generations in our families. Advent wreaths, Nativity scenes, Jesse Trees, holiday baking and our beautiful Christmas trees remind us that we eagerly await the birth of the Christ child. In my own family we have recently added reflection and prayer related to the O Antiphons. Whatever traditions your family practices, I wish you much joy.
In keeping with the Advent season as a time for preparation and penance, students will have the opportunity to go to confession on Tuesday, Dec. 4th and Wednesday, Dec. 5th.
The December calendar is very full! Report cards will go home on Friday, Dec. 7th. Since we moved to a trimester-based school year, the program that runs the printing of report cards had to be re-written. One area not yet fully operable involves grades for jr. high electives. You will notice on the report card a line titled “enrichment” and no grade issued. You will see in the comment section the names of the elective courses your child took. If you have questions or need additional information about your child’s performance in an elective, please contact the elective teacher directly. Electives do not appear on transcripts, and this glitch will have no bearing on 8th grade students and high school applications.
The Christmas Concert is Friday, December 14th in the school gym, at 7:00. Please join us for an evening of faith-filled and time honored Christmas songs. Mr. Pena-Ariet and the children have been hard at practice and this is sure to be a great event. Students should wear their Sunday best.
The PTO is sponsoring the SJS Winter Warmth Drive. Unwrapped hats, gloves and scarves can be dropped off as you enter the Christmas concert.  Additionally , new and gently used clean coats of all sizes are also needed. All items will be donated to needy families and will be greatly appreciated during this time of year!
The Middle School Ministry will celebrate A St. Nick Extravaganza on Friday, December 7th. Please see the ad below for more information.
The Provine picture make-up day is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11th. Students who were absent in September should complete the form found at this link. If your child needs a picture retake, please return the original packet and a new picture will be taken. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Pearce in the front office.
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that Mr. Pena-Ariet announces the Jr. choir (4th 5th 6th) will start after Christmas break . Rehearsals will be Wednesday after school 3:30 - 4:30 and lunch/recess on Thursdays.
Please remember that Saturday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and is a Holy Day of Obligation.
