Bernie's Bark
2.26.2019
Dear Parents-

Our 8th grade students will receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00am. Students are asked to arrive at school by 9:00am.

For students accepted to, and planning to attend Paul VI Catholic High School, a separate registration date and time has been arranged, to avoid conflict with Confirmation. SJS students entering PVI as freshmen this fall can register on Wednesday, March 13, from 5:00-6:00pm in our library. We are grateful to Mrs. Hanley for scheduling this event for our students’ convenience.

Last Thursday, our Jr. High students participated in our science fair. The top 10 winners will participate at the Diocesan level, Saturday, April 13. Congratulations to Marlene B., Ben B., Brennan C., Jack D., Paulette F., Ana G., Brigid M., Andrew P., Sophia S., and Maya V. Additionally, congratulations to runners-up Christine B., Amanda B., Sophia B., Sawyer C., and Andrea L. The projects were amazing and showed a high level of preparedness.

On Friday, February 22, Mr. Jeff Sanders, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Good Samaritan Council, and Mr. Jerry Frissora, Deputy Grand Knight, presented awards to student-winners of the “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest and the “How Does Your Family Keep its Catholic Faith in Action?” essay contest. Students, and their teachers, Mrs. Nickles and Mrs. Sears, were honored after Mass. These winning entries are sent on to the next level of competition, and we anxiously await the results! Good luck, Saints!

On Friday, March 1, please consider joining me, Father Tom, and Mrs. Farrell, at our Coffee with the Principal, as we discuss conflict and bullying. Our goal is to establish a meaningful dialog between home and school to address important school climate issues and develop a plan to identify concerns and affect change. Research shows that a strong, collaborative relationship between parents and schools is the most effective way to change school climate.

Parents of 6-8 grade students should have received an electronic communication from me detailing the upcoming presentation on the Gift of Human Sexuality . In accordance with diocesan policy, this program is designed as an opt-in opportunity for parents and students. We recognize parents as the primary educators of children and we are privileged to work with you. With that idea, I invite parents of students in grades 6-8 to a presentation for parents to be held on Thursday March 14th at 7:00 p.m. in Hall A for you to receive the information that will be presented to the students in class.

Don't forget to place the lunch order for your children through our school lunch program, in conjunction with Fairfax Food Service. Use this link, https://sjschoolva.org/hot-lunch-program, to be re-directed to our webpage to find the ordering procedures. Remember to place your order no later than the 28 th of each month!

Rejoice and Be Glad!
