Dear Parents-

We mark the end of the joyous Easter Season with the celebration of Pentecost ….and the birthday of the Church! As Catholics we recognize the way to salvation is through the Church. Through the Holy Spirit we know the Church to be “one, holy, Catholic and apostolic,” preserving and continuing the work of the Apostles, and guiding us in our relationship with Christ. We are so blessed to call ourselves Catholic!

After 11 years serving the St. Joseph community, Fr. Alberto will leave us June 30, and begin his new ministry as parochial vicar at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tampa, FL. We join together to wish Fr. Alberto well. We will miss you! We welcome Brother Rufino Corona, who will be ordained in July, and begin his ministry in our parish. Father Pat Whittle continues his weekend support of the friars, and will be in-residence, starting in August, while he finishes his doctorate in liturgy. Please keep Father Alberto, Father Pat and Brother Rufino in your prayers as they accept their new responsibilities.

*****IMPORTANT**** Please Read:   Before you head off for the summer, please bag up any materials and textbooks that you have at home that need to be returned to SJS . Each child should put his or her textbooks into a bag, seal up the bag, write YOUR NAME, grade and teacher on the bag. Do this NOW, so you don’t lose anything. As soon as possible, a date will be set to return the items, but not before PHASE TWO. Each child needs his or her OWN BAG, so that materials can be accurately inventoried and returned to the proper classroom.

Dates and logistics for dropping off textbooks will be announced when available.

Teachers will hold classes/office hours until June 10. Please encourage your children to finish strong and continue working until June 10. What we do now will help make the transition back to school in the fall a bit easier. Summer reading and math assignments are available on the school website . Students will complete math assignments on IXL.

The 2020-2021 school year is scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 26, 8:00AM-11:30AM. Afternoon Extended Day will be available until 3:00PM. Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28 are scheduled as whole days of school, 8:00AM-3:15PM. Dates and times will be adjusted, if necessary, in accordance with mandates from Governor Northam, OCS or the VA Department of Health.

Did you ever want to know our friars just a little bit better? Father Tom, Father David and Chef Laura have created the next installment of Cooking with the Friars. While enjoying a delicious pizza from Pisanos, Chef Laura asks the questions that help us get to know Father Tom and Father David just a little bit better. Did you know Father Tom likes to listen to jazz, and that Father David likes bacon on his pizza??? Find the entire interview on YouTube, https://youtu.be/qiMuScDSkAI

I pray for the health and safety of our community.
As always, if you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!

Child Compliance
All Adult Volunteers for St. Joseph Catholic School should have received an email from Beth Covert regarding acknowledging the new Child Compliance Policy from the Arlington Diocese. If you haven’t received this email, please check your spam/junk file for email from [email protected] . If it is not there, please email Beth and she will forward the form to you to complete and acknowledge.

The Diocese has also scheduled Zoom Virtus seminars for those that still need to complete the seminar portion of the Child Compliance Program. You must register for the sessions as spaces are limited. Please go to virtus.org to find these seminars and to register.
