We celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on Thursday, Aug. 22, a feast also known as the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Last August we enthroned SJS to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary
. It is so fitting, as we prepare to renew the Enthronement again this year, that we have our first student events on Thursday, Aug. 22 as we welcome our incoming kindergarteners at 9:00, or new students at 2:00 and our Kindergarten and 1st grade parents for their Back to School Night at 7:00.
The teachers are back at work, readying the classrooms for the arrival of all the students! Back to School is one of the most exciting times of the year, full of all the promises of the future! The third grade classrooms have added two stand-up desks and six wiggle chairs. This
is great for helping students maintain focus and concentration, while at the same time allowing for movement. During Christmas break we expect to install the lighting that was the main focus of the appeal. Once the lighting is installed, stop in to see the difference! All this, thanks to the funds raised at the Spring Fling last April!
Over the summer, we had some changes in staffing, and that information has already been shared, but we are still interviewing and adding to the faculty. I am happy to make the following personnel announcements:
Mrs. Kathleen Moskowitz
moves from 2nd grade to Learning Resource. Mrs. Moskowitz is working on her Virginia licensure in Special Education, through the University of Virginia, certification anticipated May, 2020. Mrs. Carson, along with Mrs. Tierney, will continue to provide support.
Miss Gabrielle Buonocore
joins the faculty as the new 2 Green teacher. Miss Buonocore has two years teaching experience, most recently as a 6th grade teacher at Holy Family Academy in Manassas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Thomas Aquinas College (CA), and is eligible for a VCEA teaching certificate.
Don't forget that you can
for your children through our school lunch program, in conjunction with Fairfax Food Service.
Use this link to access updated directions
from Fairfax Food Service. Remember to place your order no later than the 28
of each month!
We will conduct a
test of our School Messenger emergency broadcast system
on Thursday, Aug. 29. We will use the contact information available to us on PowerSchool. For this reason, it is very important that you log onto the PowerSchool Parent Portal to update your emergency information.
After the test, please
notify Lisa Pearce
at email@example.com if there were any problems with the test, or if you did not receive the test communication.
I hope to see everyone at the Meet and Greet. The teachers are looking forward to seeing their students and getting the year off on a great note! We have quite a few new teachers and several old teachers in new roles so please stop in and say hello.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Enjoy the end of summer!
Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!
