Dear Parents-
On Labor Day we honor the American worker, and the hard-won victory over the 70-
hour work week! As Catholics, and as a nation, we
protect the dignity of work and
the basic rights of workers, and we recognize the right of workers to “turn-off” and enjoy
time away from work. I hope that all our SJS families enjoyed a restful Labor Day
weekend!
Don’t forget to join us at the 2019
Parish BBQ and Picnic, this Saturday, Sept. 7, from
1:30-5:30. Tickets are available at the Parish Office. Your favorite teachers are
volunteering to paint faces and run contests. The BBQ is a great opportunity for good
food and good fellowship- and we hope to see you there! !
Last week we rolled out the new model for
Back to School Night. Kindergarten and 1st
grade parents visited classrooms on August 22, parents in grades 2-6 visited on August
28 and grades 7 and 8 parents visited on August 29. The goal of implementing this new
format was to allow parents more time with teachers so that Back to School Night was
meaningful for all grade levels. Your feedback relative to this model will help inform
decisions for next year. You are invited to complete the short survey found here -

.
I feel like there is nothing more beautiful than an SJS
school Mass. I want to welcome
all parents to attend Mass with the school, if it fits in your schedule. Please be aware
that the church doors will lock at 9:30 this year, as they did last year. As is the case with
locking the school doors, this is a precaution taken with the safety of the students as the
primary concern.
Last Thursday, we conducted the
test of our School Messenger emergency
broadcast system. If you did not receive a phone call, email, or text message, or if you
want to change the phone numbers or email addresses used, please contact Hayleigh
Our 8th grade class coordinators are selling an amazing collection of
spirit wear. Visit
the SJS website and click spirit wear, or use
this link which will take you to the online store. All proceeds support the traditional 8th grade events that make their
graduation year so memorable.
Many
volunteer opportunities exist including recess, lunch, library, and art. Please
consider volunteering on a regular basis to support these programs. The need is great,
and your children will be happy to see you!
Scantron testing
window opens Sept. 9 and it will continue until the 27th of September.
The Scantron test is an adaptive, computer-based achievement test, given to students in grades 3-7, to measure academic growth over time. Students should be well rested and relaxed in preparation for the tests. Results will be made available to parents as soon as possible, after the testing window closes.
See you at the BBQ!
Welcome one another....as Christ welcomed you!
