PRAYER IN ADVENT
Prayer in Advent is a 3-week advent study on prayer based on the book Listen: Praying in a Noisy World by the late Rueben P. Job. There is a weekly prayer practice for each of the 3 weeks: Sitting in Silence, Intentional Listening and Remembering God’s Love. These practices will be part of a structured daily session with prayer. Each Thursday we will have quiet time to calm the noisy Christmas shopping and discuss of your experiences and reflect and pray together. This is an opportunity for time during advent to prepare your heart again to receive the precious gift we receive in Jesus. Taught by Donna Berry, certified spiritual director and credentialed coach. A sign-up sheet will be in the Hospitality Center and Family Life Center. The meetings will be Dec. 5, 12, 19 at 6:00 pm in room 245.
MOUNTAIN CATHEDRALS
Going a bit further afield this time, we journey to the Rio Puerco area near Cabezon peak. The Hoodoo Trail in the Ojito Wilderness awaits. This relatively easy walk (4 miles, a few hundred feet of elevation change) is a good introduction to the fabulous desert scenery in this part of NM. This area is interesting for its geology (volcanic necks, sandstone formations and convoluted structures), botany (Ponderosas below 6000 feet elevation??), human history, and …. what we may find in ourselves on this journey. The November Mountain Cathedrals Hike will be held Saturday, Nov. 16 th. Plan to be at St. John’s (east lot) by 7:30 am. Prepare for cold weather and bring lunch; return by 2:00 PM. More info - contact Kelly Giese or Mike Furnish (884-6626). Next trip: Saturday, Dec. 21. 'Til our trails cross!

WORSHIP ARTS VOLUNTEER
Worship Arts is looking for volunteers to help decorate for Advent on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 12:00pm. Come enjoy pizza in the Sonshine Cafe first then we will get busy throughout the church. Please RSVP to Beth or Don Zerwekh 505-459-1108.
YOU HAD TO BE THERE! A LOOK AT CROWDS IN THE BIBLE.
Moses, David, John the Baptist, Peter, Philip the Evangelist, and Paul all drew crowds, but Jesus was a superstar who attracted enormous crowds wherever he went. Sometimes the crowd filled a house, but other times the crowd encompassed thousands of people. St. John’s email Bible study will examine how big the crowds were, where and why the crowds gathered, and who was in the crowds. During this shopping season, instead of complaining about the long lines in grocery stores, full parking lots, and busy malls, let’s think about what it was like to be one of the crowd in biblical times. Pick up a study guide in the Welcome Center, or call or write Regina Hunter at 294-2877, drhunter@nmia.com, to join St. John’s largest on-going study. Study tips and scripture readings are emailed on weekdays, but we each read at a time of our own choosing.
THANKSGIVING WEEK CLOSURE
The church offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. NO classes will meet on Friday.

Mission & Outreach
THE STOREHOUSE:
"Soups and cereals" will be our goal for November's food collection for The Storehouse. This includes such items as: ready-to-eat cereals, oatmeal and other hot cereals, hearty canned soups containing meat and/or vegetables, canned chili, beef stew, etc. And, if you notice other "bargains" as you're shopping, please feel free to donate any non-perishables. Please place your donations in the wire bins located in the Hospitality Centers. Struggling families in our community will thank you, and we do, too!
FAMILY PROMISE
A huge thanks to the many volunteers during our hosting! We are looking for gently used or new donations for St. John's supplies. Please donate blankets, at least twin sized, desk fans, and linen bags (used to line our hampers). These items will be stored and kept at St. John's. During the month of November, items may be dropped off at the Hospitality Center or FLC. Thank you for your generosity. If have questions, please contact Jenn Shields at jennshields200@yahoo.com or 505-450-9978.
ANGEL TREE
In less than a month, St. Johns will once again be able to support the Angel Tree ministry with Christmas gifts for children whose parents are incarcerated, in the name of the parent. Should you be able to help folks register the "Angels" they have selected, or help with sorting and or delivering the gifts, please contact Kathy Scherlacher at 505-823-6692. Thank you.
NOVEMBER SPECIAL OFFERING: UMCOR
Via the United Methodist Committee on Relief - UMCOR- we have a powerful way to reach families and communities who have experienced devastation in the wake of disaster. Hurricanes, tornadoes, Tsunamis, fires, UMCOR responds, and when the headlines fade, UMCOR stays for the long haul. This special offering used to be called One Great Hour of Sharing, and the name was appropriate because when we give we share the love of God and equip Christ's body to serve in his name. When we pray and when we give, we can make a difference. Please give generously any time this month.
