ORIENT/REORIENT: LEARNING ABOUT ST. JOHN’S
“What are our core Christian beliefs?” “What is special about being a Methodist?” “What is going on at St. John’s?” “Where do I fit in?”
These are key questions that newcomers ask about our church and we are having a class to discuss the answers. To orient means to get direction and that’s the purpose of this class: What direction should I be going in my faith journey? Visitors and new members are the primary focus for the class, but those who have been around awhile may want to REORIENT and reenergize themselves by entering the discussion.
The class will take place on four Sundays right after last service and lunch will be provided. The first class will start Sunday, March 3, 2019, and we’ll end on March 24.  We will meet in Rooms 149/151 from 12:15-1:30 PM, eat and fellowship, then discuss the topics (our Christian faith, Methodism, St. John’s, my place.)
To register for the class, sign up at the Hospitality Center or contact Jack and Carol Nuzum at 265-5241 or jcnuzum@juno.com

Mission & Outreach

WAYS WE CAN SERVE
See what’s happening in February for missions at St. John’s! Come by the Hospitality
Center to pick up your copy or download here .

FEBRUARY SPECIAL OFFERING: Covenant with Missionaries
We have the opportunity to continue our support of Rukong and Nandona (Fresie) Chikomb, United Methodist Missionaries in the Congo. They run the southern Congo Wings of the Morning Aviation Ministry. It provides transportation for hospitals, educators, mission teams and a variety of other mission needs. They have also provided translation services for the United Methodist Church and others as needed, speaking English, French, Swahili and two Congolese dialects! Fresie has also worked with the Jamaa Letu Boys Orphanage, and they are raising three children of their own.

In addition, we have the opportunity again this year to support some medical interns as they go into remote areas of the Congo to serve people who often have no other access to a doctor. Serving in this area is also an opportunity for female interns to get valuable experience to further their medical studies. John Schwarting reports that the
medical establishment in the Congo is still often reluctant to support female doctors, so the female interns currently serving in rural areas receive barely enough to live on.

Though we highlight them in February, we have an opportunity to support these missionaries and missions with our money and prayers all year long. St. John’s has been covenanting with missionaries since its beginning. Please continue the tradition with your generous support. You can download the Covenant with Missionaries (Faith Promise)

UNM WESLEY HOUSE
Can you provide a meal for the students before Bible Study on a Tuesday night
sometime before May 2019? To sign up go to: http://bit.ly/unmwesley.

SILVER HORIZONS
From month to month, we alternate between supporting The Storehouse and Silver Horizons. So, in February, let's fill our shopping carts with dry goods, such as dry beans, rice, pastas (of all types), and ready-to-eat cereals. We're told these are "premium" items and very costly for Silver Horizons to purchase. Also, peanut butter and powdered milk are always in demand. We thank you for your generosity in assisting the low-income "seniors" in our community, many of whom are caregivers for their grandchildren!
