Weekly Disciple
March 8, 2019
Join us for worship this Sunday!
New Sermon Series: "The Radical Sayings of Jesus"
8:15 am, 9:30 am & 11:00 am
LUKE 12:22-31
Do Not Worry
22  He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.  23  For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.  24  Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!  25  And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?  26  If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?  27  Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.  28  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!  29  And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying.  30  For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.  31  Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

ORIENTATION CLASS: ORIENT/REORIENT: LEARNING ABOUT ST. JOHN’S
“What are our core Christian beliefs?” “What is special about being a Methodist?” “What is going on at St. John’s?” “Where do I fit in?”
These are key questions that newcomers ask about our church and we are having a class to discuss the answers. To orient means to get direction and that’s the purpose of this class: What direction should I be going in my faith journey? Visitors and new members are the primary focus for the class, but those who have been around awhile may want to REORIENT and reenergize themselves by entering the discussion.

What:
Class 2: Methodist History and Beliefs (March 10, 2019)
Class 3: St. John’s Programs and Organization (March 17, 2019)
Class 4: Where do I fit in? What can I contribute? (March 24, 2019)
When: 12:15-1:30 PM each Sunday (lunch and childcare provided)
Where: Rooms 149/151
Who: Anyone (visitors, prospective members, new members, old members) who want to know what we believe and do as members of St. John’s congregation.
How: Interactive discussion
Contact: Jack or Carol Nuzum (jcnuzum@juno.com; 505-265-5241) Call or email Jack or Carol soon so we can plan or sign up Sunday in the Hospitality Center.

READING OUR BIBLE TOGETHER AT ST. JOHN’S
What Must I Do to be Saved?
St. John’s daily email Bible study will tackle this age-old question beginning March 11. In Part 1, we’ll look at what the Bible says about whom God wants to save. “Reading Our Bible Together” originated in 2007 at St. John’s and is our largest continuing Bible study. A scripture passage and a brief study tip are distributed to most participants by email five days a week. We each read at a time and place of our own choosing. Answers to reader questions and other supplements occasionally come out on Saturdays. To receive daily study tips by email, write or call Regina Hunter at drhunter@nmia.com or 294-2877.

MEN’S SPRING BIBLE STUDY: Proverbs & Ecclesiastes

Vance Behr has done both and will be happy to give you more information. Call him at 505-300-6320. Please help with this important mission.

Child of God
No matter what people say
say, or think about me
I am a child
I am a child of God.

No matter what people say
say, or think about you
You are a child
You are a child of God.

No matter what the world says
say, or think about me
I am a child
I am a child of God.

No matter what the church says
decisions, pronouncements on you
You are a child
You are a child of God.

And there is nothing
or no one who can separate
they can't separate
you from the truth that you're someone
You are family
You are meant to be
a Child of God.
