Is it possible that spring has finally sprung?
This year is PCAP's 25th Anniversary! In 1998, Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan Partnership was established and the 1998-2003 Action Plan launched in June 1998 with 16 partners. Tara Mulhern Davidson wrote a great article about PCAP's 25th anniversary. You can find it here.
Last week, the PCAP Partner representatives got together for our Spring PCAP Meeting. We discussed a new 5-year strategic plan. It was a great facilitated meeting with almost 30 engaged Partner representatives. We'll continue to work on the plan in the Fall!
You can register for the May Native Prairie Speaker Series webinars. The first webinar is tomorrow, May 3rd at noon CST, and will be about Golden Eagles by Dr. Joe Schmutz. Register for free here. The second webinar will be about data collection, sharing and uses, presented by the staff at the SK Conservation Data Centre on May 15th at noon, SK time. You can register for the SK CDC webinar here.
If you miss either of the May webinars, they will be on our YouTube Channel within a few days!
And finally, we would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support: Canadian Forage and Grasslands Association, North American Helium, Nutrien, Saskatchewan Cattlemen's Association, SaskEnergy, SaskPower, SaskTel, Wildlife Habitat Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada, as well as the continuous support of all the PCAP Partners.

Partner Spotlight:
Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation
Submitted by Courtney Devins, SWF
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) is a non-profit, non-government, charitable organization of over 33,000 members in 123 branches across Saskatchewan, representing every walk of life. Established in 1929, the SWF has become an acknowledged leader in conservation, and per capita, is the largest wildlife conservation organization of its kind in the world.
Through the Habitat Trust Program, the SWF has secured over 76,000 acres of habitat lands for wildlife, and helps to manage an additional 225,000 acres through the Fish & Wildlife Development Fund. Each year, the SWF hosts an annual golf tournament, in support of the Habitat Trust Program. The 17th Annual Habitat Trust Golf Tournament is set to take place on June 20, 2023, at the Harbour Golf Club & Resort, in Elbow, SK. To register, contact the SWF Central Office at 306-692-8812.
The SWF provides outdoor education initiatives to over 25,000 youth & adults each year, with programs including the Youth Conservation Camps, Sporting Clay Shoot, Classrooms in the Marsh/Classrooms on Ice, the Fish in Schools Program, National Archery in the Schools Program, Women’s Outdoor Weekend, artwork contests, and so much more. This year, the 5th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot will take place on May 27, 2023 at the Hanley Sporting Grounds, in Hanley, SK, with all proceeds going towards SWF educational programming. Each of these programs lead individuals toward a greater appreciation for Saskatchewan’s natural landscape and wild inhabitants, under the framework that developing a connection with nature translates into stronger support for conservation practices.
As the Administrators of the Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery, located in Fort Qu’Appelle, and with the support of the Ministry of Environment, the SWF is on the cutting edge of fisheries management and aquatic habitat enhancement in the province. The SWF has over 165 active fisheries enhancement projects around the province, with more being added each year. The SWF also takes an active role in advocating for the aquatic species of our province through advisory committees, species at risk recovery teams, and aquatic invasive species prevention.
The SWF is also leading the way for women working and volunteering in conservation across the country through the national Advancing Women in Conservation (AWIC) Summit, a gathering to discuss women’s issues, and empower female leaders in conservation. The 2nd Annual AWIC Summit is set to take place October 20-22, 2023 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Registration is open, and additional information can be found on the SWF website.
