November 2022 | Volume 14 Issue 11

Happy November 1st! I hope everyone had a great Halloween!

Last month, the PCAP Partnership met in person for the first time since 2019! It was great catching up with PCAP Partners, we'll be doing it more often next year as we'll start developing the next 5-year Framework!

There are lots of events in the next few months, make sure to check out the 'Upcoming Events' section. There are two events in particular that I wanted you to note (and register for!):

The 2022 Transboundary Grassland Partnership Workshop is in Medicine Hat, November 15-16, 2022. Registration is open, you can register here. Hope to see you there!

The 2023 Prairie Conservation and Endangered Species Conference is in Calgary, February 21-23, 2023. Registration just opened, you can register here! There are limited spots so make sure to register early!

The October webinar was Kayla Caruso, from the U of Saskatchewan, who discussed shorebirds around Chaplin Lake. You can find Kayla's presentation on PCAP's YouTube Channel. Caitlin is still working on securing a November Native Prairie Speaker Series, please check out the webpage in the next week for any updates!

Society for Range Management - Prairie Parkland Chapter

Submitted by Cassandra Schroeder, SRM-PPC

The Prairie Parkland Chapter (PPC) of the Society for Range Management (SRM) provides leadership for the stewardship of rangelands in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. We offer opportunities for the exchange of information among interested individuals, promote professional development and assist the SRM parent society to achieve its objectives. Society for Range Management is the professional scientific society and conservation organization whose members are concerned with studying, conserving, managing, and sustaining the varied resources of the rangelands. SRM members are diverse, but include land managers, scientists, educators, students, producers, and conservationists.

We help organize events for people interested in rangelands. This spring we collaborated to organize a field tour for Native Prairie Appreciation Week near Eastend, Saskatchewan. Birds, burns and bison were some of the topics we explored. Next spring, we will organize Back to the Field, a professional development field day for those interested in rangelands. Coming up in February, on the 2nd and 3rd we will be helping the Ministry of Agriculture to host Celebrating Rural Ranching Women in Maple Creek. This event features range and ranch management topics and encourages women to get together and learn. For more registration info, contact jordan.johnson10@gov.sk.ca

The PPC also supports the University of Saskatchewan range team to compete at the international competition held by the SRM parent society. The U of S range team was awarded first place in 2018 and 2019, second place in 2020, and third place in 2021. This year’s conference and exam will be held in Boise, Idaho, in February 2023.
