The British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) has partnered with researchers at the University of British Columbia on a study of intellectual freedom and medical disinformation in Canadian libraries.
They are seeking representation from libraries across the country through volunteer interview participants who have worked in public libraries and have experienced the tension between intellectual freedom and medical disinformation in their job.
Participation involves a brief demographic survey and a 60-minute interview about your experiences and perspective, conducted by UBC researchers.
Canadian libraries have long been supporters and defenders of intellectual freedom. Certain types of materials have always posed challenges to intellectual freedom ideals, and libraries have faced difficult decisions regarding how to balance issues of intellectual freedom and stemming the tide of health disinformation.
BCLA hopes the study's results increase understanding of this issue and provide support for public libraries.
