The National Film Board in Libraries:

2026 TD Summer Reading Club Selections

Each year, the TD Summer Reading Club reaches out to the National Film Board for a curated list of great Canadian films that work with the year’s theme.

For 2026, the TD Summer Reading Club is pleased to present the compilation Drift & Discover. This selection of short films celebrates the wonders of water—from the depths of the sea to winding riverbeds and island shores. Playful and thoughtful, these works are crafted to engage young audiences through animation, storytelling, and imagination.

These films are available to libraries to support 2026 programming and events this year. For more information or to access these films for your library, please use the link below.

Regional Parks Pass Lending Program Returns for Another Year!

The Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Library Association, is pleased to offer the 2026 Regional Parks Lending Program. This program is geared towards families and individuals who may otherwise not be able to access the Regional Parks without the lending program.

Starting from May 15 to September 8, 2026, anyone with a valid library card can borrow a pass from any Saskatchewan library and enjoy a seven-day loan period with free access to nearly 100 regional parks across the province!

This year, 850 passes will be distributed to all regional library branches, libraries in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and university libraries in Saskatoon and Regina. The Saskatchewan Regional Parks Guide and maps are included with each pass to help plan your next adventure!

Hello, everyone,

I hope that you've all been enjoying a very pleasant spring so far! I am… very much not, but that is largely because we haven't actually had any spring up here as yet.

Now, this has not been for lack of trying! Why, we'd even scheduled our PNLS AGM into the very last Saturday in April, all the better to enjoy some governance fun in the seasonal sun, only to discover—as I am sure you are aware from news reports by now—that the end of April turned out to be Ninth Winter for us, dumping an estimated… well, as of this writing it has not actually stopped yet, but by some estimates a potential full metre of snow by the time this finally ends.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh! I imagine that is definitely how I will react if you ask me about it. I will laugh, and laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Oh, the fun we will have!

But that's enough about spring for now, and especially enough about winter, because it's never too early to begin thinking about summer—why, I myself have been thinking about summer for a good six months now, I'd reckon—and now is the perfect time to think about summer programming ideas for your library, as the 2026 SLA Summer Children's Programming and Performer Tours grants are now accepting applications! We'll be providing fifteen grants of up to $300 each, generously presented and sponsored by our good friends at SaskTel, for children's and teen summer programming scheduled to run between July 1 and August 31, so be sure to submit your application by May 21.

(Aspirationally, I'm hoping that my back will have recovered from the shoveling by then. Fingers crossed!)

Until next time,

James Hope Howard
