One Book One Province Wrap-Up
Thank you, Saskatchewan, for another amazing year of One Book One Province! Our author, Jennifer Wallace, has now wrapped up her tour of the province, which included nine events in six different communities.
Thank you to each of our host libraries for welcoming Jennifer into your community and for making sure your event ran smoothly. Thank you also to everyone who attended one of the events or who Miss G and Me this month. This was an incredible time of bringing people together over a shared story and sparking good conversations. None of this would have been possible without each of you participating!

CFLA Climate Action Survey
The Canadian Federation of Library Associations’ (CFLA) Climate Action Committee is surveying the library community to better understand how CFLA can support climate action work in Canadian libraries.
In September 2023, CFLA launched this Climate Action Committee in order to:
- Explore issues and identify climate crisis concerns and act as an information resource providing policy recommendations for the CFLA-FCAB Board on climate crisis issues;
- Support the Canadian library and information sector in responding collectively to the climate crisis;
- Focus on capacity building and work in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals relating to climate action; and,
- Monitor ongoing progress in these areas.
Responses from this survey will be used to develop the CFLA Climate Action Committee’s inaugural work plan. All members of the library community are invited to fill out this survey, which should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Multiple responses from within the same institution are accepted.
The survey closes on May 10, 2024.

CFLA Request for Proposals
CFLA-FCAB has recently begun the work of engaging stakeholders to better understand how it can best serve the needs of its members and elevate the profile of CFLA-FCAB’s work in the sector.
Communications was identified as a significant area of opportunity, including both how CFLA-FCAB communicates its mandate and progress against its strategic goals, and with respect to communication with members, the broader sector, and between the Board and Strategic Committees. The Board approved the development of a Communications Strategy to identify opportunities to improve communication tactics, and develop a content plan focused on sharing the Federation’s accomplishments.
CFLA is seeking someone to create this Communications Strategy. The scope of work would include:
- A strategy to address CFLA-FCAB’s communication priorities, including support for some initial communications to launch this work;
- A content plan for ongoing communications outlining what information should be shared, with which stakeholders, via what channel, etc.; and,
- Identified metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications for this initiative, beginning Q1 2024-2025.
To submit a proposal, please email the relevant documents outlined in the Request for Proposals to chair@cfla-fcab.ca.

Hello everyone,
We spend all year planning for it and looking forward to it, and now it’s finally here – welcome to the week of the annual Saskatchewan Libraries Conference!
We’re looking forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces this year to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Conference Centre in Regina, which longtime attendees may remember as the venue for our 2018 conference as well. The full conference schedule is now available both through the Sched phone app and in PDF form on the SLA website, so please go through it when you have the opportunity and pick the sessions that most appeal to you.
Incidentally, if you haven’t used the Sched app since last year’s conference, I recommend making sure that it’s updated to its most recent version. You can update apps on your iPhone by opening the App Store and tapping your profile icon in the top-right corner, or update apps on your Android device through your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Google Play Store.
As current President of the SLA, I’m both pleased and honoured to also be serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the 2024 Saskatchewan Book Awards Gala, which kicks off Friday night at 7:30 PM in the same venue as the conference. I look forward to celebrating Saskatchewan authors and their excellent books — and to celebrating all of the hardworking and talented library staff who help to share these and other stories — with all of you this May 2 and 3.
Until next time,
James Hope Howard
SLA President
