1800 North Sewer Realignment Project Construction Begins at Rosewood Park

The Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU) will construct a series of tunnels to cross I-15 and the railroad in support of the 1800 North Sewer Realignment in early 2022. This will include a new sewer trunk line intended to serve the downtown and eastern service areas.

This three-phase project will provide needed repairs and improvements to extend system service life and improve system reliability for the area’s sanitary sewer and storm drain systems.

As crews begin constructing the first phase of the project, portions of Rosewood Park and the pedestrian pathway will be closed. Construction signage will be placed to notify visitors of detours and closures.
New Projects Begin at Liberty Park

Public Lands is preparing to begin a new project on the reconstruction of the well-loved basketball court at Liberty Park. Additionally, Public Lands is exploring the potential for art on site and will be working with the Planning team to evaluate possibilities.

Liberty Park hosts three historic fireplaces that have taken significant damage in the past few years from vandalism and fires. We are currently working with the Planning team for approval to clean and repair the fireplaces as well as fill one fireplace to prevent future burnings.

Poplar Grove Sportcourt Project Update
Public Lands has completed the survey for the Poplar Grove sport courts. Over 300 responses were recorded providing comments on the future of the courts as well as the incorporation of art in the space.

Based on responses and discussions with the Poplar Grove Community Council, Public Lands intends to reconstruct one tennis court and convert the other court into two pickleball courts.

Residents strongly advocated for local culture and diversity to be incorporated in the new art work in the park. Public Lands will be working closely with the Community Council, SLC Arts Council, and the Engineering Division to complete this project.
Wasatch Hollow Off-Leash Dog Park

Public Lands has been in discussion with Wasatch Hollow Community Council and other neighbors around conflicts between off-leash dogs and other park users at Wasatch Hollow Park.

After meeting on site, Public Lands has designed new signage that more clearly identifies the off-leash hours and area. New signage will be posted in the coming weeks.

In addition, Public Lands is drafting a survey for community members to weigh in on the existing regulations for the park and potential changes.

Rose Park Lane Rezoning Petitions

Public Lands has submitted a Master Plan amendment and Rezone petitions for four parcels located on Rose Park Lane, just south of the Regional Athletic Complex. Public Lands is looking to rezone the four parcels from Residential to Open Space.

The petitions received a positive recommendation from the Planning Commission. On July 19th, City Council received a presentation on the petitions.

A public hearing for the petitions is scheduled for August 9th with Council action tentatively scheduled for August 16th.

There is one unoccupied house on one of the parcels, and demolition of this house remains a high priority for the Westpointe community. Public Lands is working with the Community and Neighborhoods Department on the demolition. Following a successful rezone of the property, Public Lands will conduct community engagement to determine the vision for the site.
