Spring High Water Awareness
As the snow melts this spring, Public Lands is expecting to see possible high water impacts to the following properties.

Natural Lands Areas

Parks

We will be posting high water and educational signage and prioritizing Park Ranger presence in these areas throughout the spring.

Please use caution when visiting these parks and do not allow children or dogs to approach or enter the water.

One particular area that is currently holding water is the natural area within Wasatch Hollow Park. The area is a detention basin, and it is designed to hold water before gradually releasing it downstream. The system is intended to catch debris, and although it may look like it is clogged, it is functioning properly.

This may be a regular occurrence during spring of 2023 due to significant winter precipitation. Please avoid this area when flooded.
Wildlife Awareness
As we continue to see an increase in wildlife activity in Salt Lake City, be sure to be wildlife aware when outdoors.

Check out our updated Wildlife Awareness article for tips on wildlife safety, what to do if you find an animal carcass and more.
Glendale Regional Park Plan Adopted by SLC Council
On Tuesday March 21, the Salt Lake City Council unanimously approved the Glendale Regional Park Plan which defines the vision for the new 17-acre park.

The plan includes maintenance, operations, sustainability, transportation and programming recommendations to incorporate into the site.

Phase 1 will include an all ages, all abilities playground with assistive technologies, a lawn and looped pathways, and full-court basketball.

Following closely being will be the addition of a community plaza and promenade, and parking for the park.
Rose Park Neighborhood Center Community Garden
The City has been working with the Rose Park Neighborhood Center and Wasatch Community Gardens since the start of 2023 to establish a new community garden in Rose Park.

Conceptual design is well underway, and Public Lands will be soliciting feedback from the public on the design later this spring.
Allen Park Update
Currently, the Allen Park Lodge is receiving some much-needed attention.

With immediate stabilization of the lodge complete, the City is now working with contractors to repair holes in the roof to ensure no further damage is sustained by the building’s interior. Dependent on weather, the roofing project is anticipated to be complete by late April.

Concurrently, Public Lands is gearing up to begin public engagement this summer on the Adaptive Reuse and Management Plan for the part, outlining the future vision of the space based on public engagement and the recently-completed Cultural Landscape Report.

Miller Park Update
In early March, Public Lands closed a survey asking community members for feedback on improvement projects that could potentially occur at Miller Park.

City staff is working on summarizing and compiling the results which will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
New Events Coming to the RAC
The RAC is welcoming a variety of new athletic and community events to the complex!

  • The RAC is partnering with Real Salt Lake to host 2 free soccer clinics for 5-14 yr. olds. The clinic dates are April 25th & July 25 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and will be available for up to 100 participants. The RAC is also exploring partnerships with a variety of athletic organizations to offer free camps, leagues, and tournaments to local youth in the community.

  • The RAC was recently selected to host the 2024 Far-West Region Presidents Cup. Running from June 14 - June 18th, this 5-day youth soccer event will bring in over 100 teams from 11 states with an estimated $6 million economic impact.
