Apply for Leader of the Pack by October 3
The Leader of the Pack program honors and recognizes students for outstanding contributions in leadership, scholarship, and service. This program has long been a tradition on campus, dating back to the 1990s.

While originally known as the Homecoming King and Queen Competition, the award transitioned to a more inclusive and equitable processā€”removing the gendered structure and focusing on scholarship, leadership, a commitment to creating an inclusive campus community, and service to the campus and broader community.

Six students will be recognized as finalists and the Leader of the Pack will be named at halftime of the Red and White Week game on Saturday, October 29, 2021.

Leadership Development
CliftonStrengths is an online assessment tool used to discover and develop your greatest talents. Operated by Gallup, the well-known global analytics and advice firm, this 177-question assessment measures your natural patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving and categorizes them into the 34 CliftonStrengths themes.

Join our September workshops below:
Leading With Your CliftonStrengths | September 29 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This session will help lay the groundwork for how students can use their Strengths in various leadership settings. We will be using a combination of your CliftonStrengths results with some reflection and group exercises to help prepare students to lead with their Strengths and grow their Strengths.

Civic and Community Engagement
Active Citizenry Series Starts This Fall
Before December 6, state legislators will have to redraw our stateā€™s political districts. In North Carolina, redistricting is always a point of political contention, due to legislators drawing maps to better suit their political interests, which is called gerrymandering. This workshop aims to outline the history and context of redistricting, specifically focusing on when redistricting becomes gerrymandering, and how that affects targeted communities. Participants who attend this workshop will learn how gerrymandering can be a tool used to silence the voices of our community, and learn how to recognize when it is actively occurring around them.

Alternative Service Break Program Information Meeting on Tuesday, September 28
We're excited to begin planning for 2021-2022 Alternative Service Break experiences!

The Alternative Service Break (ASB) program is a unique learning experience in which students engage in direct service to a community while being immersed in the culture. Teams are led by student team-leaders and accompanied by faculty or staff advisors.

Each team spends extensive time prior to travel doing team-building, planning for their experience, and studying the scope of their impact in the communities they will engage with. Throughout their travels, team members participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational, and reflective activities to enhance their service experience.

There will be an information meeting on Tuesday, September 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Talley 3223.

ā€œWhoā€™s Calling? Understanding the Scourge of Robocallsā€ Keynote Address on October 6
In celebration of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, NC Stateā€™s Office of Information Technology will sponsor ā€œDo Your Part. #BeCyberSmartā€ to increase the awareness and prevention of security threats.

Brad Reaves, an assistant professor in the NC State Department of Computer Science, will present the keynote address, ā€œWho's Calling? Understanding the Scourge of Robocalls,ā€ from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6 online.

Telephone subscribers in the U.S. are inundated by frequent unsolicited calls known as robocalls, and this is arguably one of the greatest cybersecurity issues facing people today. In this talk, Reaves will explain how and why the robocall problem became so significant, how NC State research reveals how these robocallers operate, and what is being done to put an end to the problem.

There will be an opportunity to win great prizes, including an Apple Watch. This event is free and open to the public.
To learn more about other planned security events in October, see NC Stateā€™s Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2021 website at http://go.ncsu.edu/csam2021:DASA.
