Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Launches “Forward Together” Initiative

As the Caribbean tourism and hospitality industry continues to respond and adapt to challenges arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), the region’s leading association representing the interests of the private sector, has launched Forward Together, an initiative which encourages industry stakeholders to join their colleagues in supporting the trade association.

SLHTA, Nina Compton Partner On GoFundMe Drive to Benefit Restaurant Employees

The Saint Lucia Hospitality & Tourism Association (SLHTA) has teamed up with acclaimed and award-winning chef, Nina Compton, on a GoFundMe drive to assist local restaurant employees whose livelihoods have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
This GoFundMe initiative is created exclusively for Saint Lucian restaurants and their workers to support them in this time of need. The goal is to raise US$100,000. Donations of US$50 and over will be eligible for a drawing of the following prizes:
 
  • A 3-night stay at Jade Mountain with breakfast and dinner in a Star Pool Sanctuary, valued at US$6,900
  • A 3-night stay at Villa XHale, valued at US$6,000
  • A 2-night stay at The Landings Resort & Spa, valued at US$800
  • Dinner for 2 at Compère Lapin, Chef Nina Compton’s restaurant in New Orleans 
  • Jus' Sail Private Sunset Sail for 2 valued at US$395

TEF Donates to Two Healthcare Facilities

Two local public healthcare institutions were the beneficiaries of much-needed equipment recently, thanks to the generosity of the SLHTA’s Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) which donated a total of EC$38,000 to their cause. 

On Thursday, March 25, the TEF donated EC$28,000 towards the purchase of a 100-pound industrial washing machine for the Respiratory Hospital and EC$10,000 to the Lions Club of Saint Lucia for the purchase of three pieces of important equipment. The presentations were made at the Finance Administrative Centre at Pointe Seraphine.

Environment, Health and Safety Manager (EHS)

The Environment, Health, and Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining Sandals Resorts International’s Corporate Sustainability Programme. He or she will execute programmes that provide our guests and team members with a safe workplace while minimizing impact to our environment and local communities.

The Environment, Health and Safety Manager will influence people to achieve a strong and engaged safety culture.

Specific Requirements/Duties of the Position Include:
  • Managing the company’s environmental Programme and ensuring compliance to local and international standards with emphasis on financial savings.
  • Ensuring all safety and regulatory training is conducted, documented, and put into practice.
  • Developing strong partnerships and relationships with community groups, service providers and local government officials to advance the company’s sustainability and health and safety Programme.
  • Developing a robust risk management system and inspecting worksites for environmental, health and safety deficiencies and ensuring that all risks are managed and mitigated
  • Supporting all aspects of the operations on resort including food safety, fire safety, chemical safety, emergency management, children’s safety, pool safety and general safety.
  • Conducting training and awareness sessions and programmes in the areas of energy conservation, water conservation, Biodiversity Conservation, chemical management etc.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies/Public Health/Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in similar capacity
  • Computer literate with knowledge of relevant applications and software i.e. Windows/Excel/Access/Outlook.

Tourism Industry urges Government to focus on testing over quarantine

A single on-arrival antigen test is as effective as a ten-day self-isolation period in reducing imported cases of Covid-19, new modeling has argued.
