SLHTA President met with Bellevue Farmers' Cooperative to discuss plans for 2015 Tourism & Agricultural Linkages
SLHTA President Karolin Troubetzkoy represented SLHTA in a meeting in Myers Bridge with the Bellevue Farmers' Cooperative. The meeting was also attended by Eva Maria Naeher, the Principal Advisor of Caribbean Aqua-Terrestrial Solutions, a GIZ (German Funding) initiative which is part of an Environmental Health and Sustainable Development Project spearheaded by CARICOM-CARPHA.
The Bellevue Farmers Cooperative gave an overview of their plans for 2015 and thanked GIZ for the implementation of a Solar and Water Storage project at their facility. The group went on to discuss the many possible collaborations between the agriculture and tourism sector. A meeting between Executive Chefs and the Bellevue Farmers' Cooperative was one of the many suggestions made. Discussed were current challenges with consistent delivery of produce, the available variety and seasonality of produce, agro processing opportunities, development of souvenirs and snacks for the tourism sector, as well as the development of nature trails in the Fond St.Jacques area.
In closing, the Project Coordinator of the Bellevue Farmer's Cooperative Anthony Hermann and Vice President Francis Blanchard thanked President Troubetzkoy for her personal attendance and expressed their enthusiasm for the many new avenues of collaboration that were presented and discussed.

Congratulations are due to Orlando and his staff on completion of their 2nd year of successful business on 12.12.2014.

Bay Gardens Resorts Crowns Roti Throwdown Champion 2014
Bay Gardens Resorts hosted its first annual 'Roti Throwdown' on December 17, 2014 at the Seagrape Beach Bar located at the Bay Gardens Beach Resort.
The roti making competition saw Bay Gardens Resorts' award-wining Executive Sous Chef, Peter Lawrence vying against two popular Reduit Beach roti makers, Elizabeth Forrester and Shirley Devi. The contestants put on a live demonstration before three judges and an audience of Bay Gardens Resorts' guests, management, members of the media and other invited guests. Update on Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC)
One more day before the curtains come down on the 2014 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), only 4 of the 177 vessels remain to cross the finish line here on Simply Beautiful Saint Lucia.
From since the kick-off over in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on November 24th, 173 boats have safely made the 2700nm trans-Atlantic crossing and have all been greeted to a hero's welcome at the IGY Rodney Bay Marina in the northern town of Gros Islet.
Since arriving on Saint Lucia, ARC participants have enjoyed a variety of activities including visits to historic and cultural sites. They also got a chance to sample the various street festivals i.e. Friday night Gros Islet, Anse La Raye and the Dennery Fish Frys.
ARC participants not undertook some environmental conservation through waste recycling but also participated in what has become the annual Tree Planting exercise done in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries and Rural Development. They were also fortunate enough to get a small taste of Christmas in Saint Lucia via 'Fete Kweyol,' held between the Baywalk and JQ Rodney Bay Shopping malls.
The 2014 ARC will come to a close on Saturday December 20th with a grand Prize Giving ceremony scheduled for 5:00pm at the Beausejour In-door Facility.

Garvin Joseph of Anse Chastanet
Garvin Joseph, our Air Condition and Refrigeration Installer/Mechanic based at Anse Chastanet Maintenance, recently passed the 'Good Refrigeration Management Practices, Recovery, Recycling and Retrofitting and Alternative Technologies of ODS' training course with a remarkable Grade A pass. He is now recognized as a full fledged Certified Technician in Saint Lucia.
The 6 day intense training course was being conducted by UNEP in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia, Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy Science and Technology.
The training course was held at Sir Arthur Lewis Training College with a one day hands on practical at Bourne's Auto Air Conditioning Service & Parts based in Castries.
The training comprised of:
- Introduction of Ozone issues
- International and local regulations
- Basic principles of refrigeration
- Refrigeration technology with new alternative refrigerants, retrofitting and drop-in refrigerants, lubricants, Code of good practice
- Recovery and recycling technologies, hand-on training on training rig with recovery and recycling machines
- Exchange of the refrigerant in the existing unit, hand-on training
- Reclaiming technology, theoretical issues,
Age 32, Garvin has been in Air Conditioning Refrigeration for 14 years and thoroughly enjoys the daily challenges that are presented to him in his role. He prides himself with a daily goal of endeavoring to achieve minimum 'call backs' from each job that he completes.
