Dee Lacey Receives Farm Bureau Heritage Award

SLO County Farm Bureau attended the California Mid-State Fair Board meeting this week to present Dee Lacey with the Farm Bureau Heritage Award. Lacey was not able to attend our 100th Anniversary Celebration when this award was first announced and accepted on her behalf by Cuesta College President Dr. Jill Stearns. Here is an excerpt from the award presentation:

The Heritage Award is in honor of a lifetime of service and selfless devotion to the San Luis Obispo County agriculture community. Tonight’s recipient is one of the most respected and powerful women in the history of San Luis Obispo County agriculture. Few people have been so dedicated to advocating for agriculture and serving the local community. She has served on countless boards including SLO County Farm Bureau, SLO County Cattlewomen’s, SLO Community Foundation, Community Action Partnership, Cattlemen’s Beef Board, Paso Robles Library Foundation, SLO Botanical Gardens, Paso Robles Children Museum, the Cuesta College Board of Trustees, and the California Mid-State Fair Board. Her decades of work has not gone unnoticed, having been named Paso Robles Citizen of Year, SLO County CattleWoman of the Year, SLO CO Cattleman of the Year, Cuesta College Woman of Distinction and 33rd Assembly District Woman of the Year. She and her husband John, have been co-owners of their family livestock business since 1963. SLO County Farm Bureau is proud to present the 2022 Heritage Award to Dee Lacey.

Farm Employment News

October 17 Update - Important Card Check (AB 2183) Information for Ag Employers: "The new (AB 2183 election) procedures, whichever way you look at it, will make it virtually impossible effectively thwart a unionization campaign. Now, the UFW (and any other union who wishes to unionize agricultural workers) will be able to present a petition showing majority support without employers ever becoming aware of the union’s effort to get support. This will require employers to rely upon ongoing efforts to create a workplace where employees do not feel the need to seek outside representation and where the employees will reject efforts to get them to sign authorization cares when union reps show up at their houses will outlandish allegations about what a horrible employer they work for." -- from The Truth About AB 2183 and "The Promise" -- Barsamian & Moody, FELS' Group Legal Services Program partner firm. You can read more of this important and informative article, provided for us by what is probably the foremost and most experienced California law firm in the Agricultural Labor Relations Act space, here
