June 24, 2025 Business Meeting

Superintendent Report Highlights

At this month's business meeting, the superintendent expressed her gratitude to students, families, staff, and the community for their ongoing support and partnership.

Reflecting on the year, she highlighted memorable moments such as seniors’ walks through elementary and middle schools, the impactful graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 held off-site at the University of Minnesota’s Northrup Auditorium, and celebrations for Transition Plus and Adult Options students.

She also noted the district’s first Feel Good Finale, which honored staff achievements, Core Values Award winners, and launched the new strategic plan.

As summer approaches, she encouraged everyone to rest, recharge, and take pride in their collective accomplishments.

Strategic Plan Priority #1 - Culturally Relevant Literacy Through the CARE Team Process

Dr. Starr, Data Scientist & Title Coordinator, shared an update on deepening culturally relevant literacy through the CARE (Collaborative Action Research for Equity) Team process.

Early Childhood focused on identity—both staff and student—and its impact on instruction. Elementary teams emphasized literacy skills with attention to how identity influences learning. Middle School teams centered their goals on skills, identity, and joy, while High School teams embedded culturally relevant literacy into unit goals and course overviews.

This work reflects the district’s continued commitment to equity and student-centered learning.

Strategic Plan Priority #2 – Staff Retention and Belonging

HR Director Loewe and Assistant Director of HR Rochelle gave an update on Priority #2 of the 2020–2025 Strategic Plan: developing a retention strategy that supports and empowers staff of color.

The focus is on creating a culture of belonging where diverse perspectives are valued and racial equity is a lived experience—not just a written commitment. This work centers on shifting away from a single way of being or learning, and instead recognizing the unique gifts and stories each individual brings.

Efforts continue to ensure St. Louis Park Public Schools is not only a place where staff of color choose to work, but one where they feel seen, supported, and empowered to stay and thrive.

Superintendent Performance Review

The School Board conducted its annual review of Superintendent Dr. Hines using the Minnesota School Boards Association’s recommended goals and rubric.

Over the year, Dr. Hines demonstrated strong leadership—building relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.

The board commended her for effectively aligning short- and long-term goals with the district’s strategic plan, establishing clear governance roles, and thoughtfully engaging stakeholders in the budgeting process. Her commitment to listening and connecting across the entire community was a standout strength.

Dr. Hines met her goals with excellence, and the board looks forward to supporting her continued leadership in the year ahead.
