May 27, 2025 Business Meeting

Superintendent Report Highlights

At this month’s business meeting, Dr. Hines began by celebrating our 2025 retirees with a heartfelt tribute video. From classrooms to cafeterias, offices to playgrounds – our retirees have shaped countless lives. Join us in honoring their contributions and celebrating their next chapter!

Also featured was a presentation by Carley Kregness, BARR Coordinator, Chris Molenaar, Science Teacher, and Collin Jones, English Teacher, presented on the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program—an approach grounded in strong relationships and smart use of student data.

This year, BARR has helped reduce 9th grade failure rates to historic lows. Teams held 85+ student meetings, 25+ parent conferences, sent over 140 positive notes home, and supported dozens of students through referrals and outreach. With consistent planner checks, biweekly communication, and a growing focus on literacy, BARR is making a measurable impact thanks to our dedicated teachers and strong schoolwide support.

Dr. Constance Robinson, our Director of Student Services, presented an update on the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)—a framework that supports student success in academics, behavior, social-emotional well-being, and mental health, while also promoting staff effectiveness and wellness.

What is MTSS?

MTSS is a proactive, evidence-based approach that ensures every student and staff member receives the right level of support. It includes universal screening, progress monitoring, multi-tiered interventions, and equity-focused, data-driven decision making.

Who’s Involved?

MTSS brings together educators, specialists, support staff, families, and community partners to work as a unified team.

Key Accomplishments:

  • MTSS teams active in all schools
  • Universal academic, behavioral, and SEL screening
  • Increased team-based decision making
  • Fewer special education referrals
  • Strengthened Tier 1 supports

What’s Next?

The district will continue to expand professional learning, monitor implementation, improve Tier 1 instruction, and deepen family engagement.
