A Message from Superintendent Osei
I can hardly believe that tomorrow is the last day of the school year for students. It has been a whirlwind of a year and I appreciate your continued engagement and support of our students and staff. Our staff and students have worked extremely hard this school year and I believe the challenges we have encountered connected to the pandemic will help us in the future as we continue to work towards the goals of our strategic plan.

The end of the school year is always a time filled with excitement and change. Each year students transition to new grade levels, grade spans, and this year 358 graduates are transitioning to a variety of post secondary experiences. In addition to the change for students, we also experience change with adults in the organization. Every year we have staff who have dedicated their lives to this profession and make the decision to retire. I am so thankful for the 21 staff members who are retiring this school year, as they have given so much of themselves to St. Louis Park Public Schools and our students and families over the years.

Their commitment and contribution to the field of education is commendable and their physical presence in our organization will be missed. While they will not be with us physically, I am confident that the impact they have made and their legacy will live on as their contribution to St. Louis Park Public Schools has helped to shape who we are as an organization.

The support you have provided our school community this year was critical to us being able to sustain in-person learning for students. Your recognition of the efforts of our teachers and staff was much appreciated and was a breath of fresh air during a very challenging school year. I hope each of you have a well deserved summer break and that you are able to spend time this summer doing the things you love.

Thank you for your continued support of St. Louis Park Public Schools.

With much appreciation,

Astein

The students were then gifted beaded caps to wear during their graduation ceremony as well as an illuminated shadow box where they can place any other memorabilia related to this amazing milestone! Congratulations to all the seniors! Miigwech for all of your input and thoughts presented to your peers in the years to come!
High School Families Asked to Opt-In for 2022-23 Transportation
As a part of districtwide budget reductions, St. Louis Park Public Schools is making several changes to transportation for the 2022-23 school year. Transportation is a vital part of the day for many of our students and families, but reductions in transportation and other non-classroom areas allow the district to reduce the impact of reductions on classrooms and programs. The changes in transportation will result in budget savings of $325,000.

As a result, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year all 9th through 12th grade students will need to opt-in (register) for transportation. Several metro area school districts are using this practice to ensure that transportation service is running as efficiently as possible.

The district will require that you complete the 2022-23 Transportation Opt-In Form if your address is eligible for transportation and you wish to have school bus transportation for your student in 2022-23.  If this form is not completed by August 1, 2022, no bus transportation will be routed for your High School student for the fall of 2022-23.

The district will review ridership and drop students who are not riding for 10 consecutive days or more. Do not request transportation unless your student will ride the bus. The District will provide you the opportunity to add your student at the end of November and again at the end of March.

Ultimate Frisbee Teams "Crush It" at State Tournament
The St. Louis Park High School girls and boys Orange Crush ultimate frisbee teams had standout performances at the Minnesota High School State Tournament on June 26-27 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. The girls team won the Division 2 state championship, the boys team finished as state runners-up in the Open Division 1 tournament, and several athletes from both teams received individual honors and awards.

On their way to the Division 2 title, the girls team recorded victories over St. Cloud Cathedral, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Blake, Edina, and a pair of victories over Cretin-Derham Hall. At the conclusion of the tournament, senior Grace Stillman was named Second Team All-State. The girls team also received the Spirit Award at the conclusion of the tournament, meaning their opponents rated them the most fair minded, respectful and spirited team at the tournament.

The boys team went 5-1 at the state tournament and fell 14-13 to Edina in the state championship match. Seniors Danny Shope and Micah Davis were named First Team All-State, freshman Henry Horstman-Olson was named Rookie of the Year, and head coach Spencer Hagen was named Coach of the Year. The boys team also received the Spirit Award at the conclusion of the tournament.

The boys team will continue its season by participating in the High School National Invitational on June 10-11 in Richmond, Virginia.
