Day one is in the books and I want to thank each of you for your support in making today a success. In every school that I visited today, I encountered excited students and staff. This type of energy cannot be manufactured and I believe it comes from the authentic care, excitement and commitment of the staff who are dedicated to serving each of your students.
While today was an overall success, there were a couple of transportation challenges that we encountered with p.m. routes. Our team has identified the issue and has a plan in place to ensure more timely routes tomorrow afternoon. For those of you impacted this afternoon, thank you for your patience and understanding.
This morning while I was visiting Aquila Elementary School, I stopped in to say hello and introduce myself to Ms. Anna Kelly’s 2nd grade class. As I was introducing myself, one of the students raised his hand and said, “Mr. Osei you look like a secret agent for the district.” His comment brought a smile to my face and I joked with the class that I was going to ask the School Board to change my title. I recognize that the student was making a reference to the way that I was dressed. And while it made me feel cool for a few moments, there is nothing secret about my commitment to St. Louis Park Public Schools and our strategic direction.
In St. Louis Park Public Schools we are committed to seeing, inspiring, and empowering each learner to live their brilliance in an environment that centers student voice and experience to create racially equitable learning that energizes and enhances the spirit of our community.
I am thankful for the individual and collective brilliance of the students, staff and families in our school community. More than ever as a school community we have to work together to foster the growth and brilliance of our students.
Thank you again for a successful start to the school year and I am looking forward to our collective work this year on behalf of each of our students.
With much appreciation,
Astein
