Gratitude: A Message from Superintendent Osei
During this time of year I often reflect on the many reasons I am grateful. At the top of the list is always my family, our staff and students, and each of you who make up our school community. My gratitude is not solely connected to the fact that each of you have endured and, in many respects, are thriving during these challenging times. My gratitude is because while enduring these challenging times, you have continued to be supportive of our school community and the strategic direction of the district.

Most importantly, I am grateful that as a school community I have observed us working together to create learning environments that foster love and connection for the students we serve. As I have shared before, I firmly believe public education is the key to the success of our democracy, and that we have a responsibility to produce citizens who are prepared to positively contribute to society. In order to prepare our students to positively contribute to society, it requires all of us to work collectively.

I am thankful to live, work, and send my children to school in a community that cares for each other and supports the healthy development of every child. I appreciate how you have demonstrated radical empathy for one another this school year and the love that you have shown our school community.

I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable fall break and I look forward to our continued partnership in support of our district mission.

With much appreciation,

Astein
Winter Break Extended to a Full Two Weeks - No School Dec. 20-21
The start of the 2021-22 school year has been a challenge for everyone as the global COVID pandemic continues. Students and families, teachers and staff have been working hard to return to in-person learning.

For the mental and physical health and wellbeing of all, the School Board unanimously approved a calendar modification adding two days to winter break in order for everyone to re-energize. Winter break has been extended to a full two weeks and now includes Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 as no school days. School will resume on Monday, Jan. 3 as originally planned.

This change may cause additional childcare needs for families. Kids Place childcare will be open on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. Childcare staff will receive incentive pay to work those days.

If the school district experiences severe weather yet this school year, students, families, teachers and staff can expect distance learning days.

Thank you for your flexibility with these calendar changes. Having some extra time to re-energize will allow everyone to have a strong start to the second half of the school year.
School Board Considers Future Special Election

Pending further School Board discussion and action, the special election could include a bond referendum and renewal of the District's Capital Projects (Technology) Levy, which is set to expire in 2023.
