A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear SLUSD Community,
Thank you for staying connected and informed about what is happening across our district. Currently you are being asked to educate yourself about several critical issues and initiatives that affect our students.
Our San Leandro Unified School Board passed
Resolution 20-06 Schools and Communities First
in support of the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act that will restore over $12 billion per year to California’s schools, health clinics, and other vital local services.
The board also passed
Resolution 20-05 Census 2020
, to support participation in the 2020 Census. This count impacts federal funds we receive each year for programs and services such as Special Education, Head Start, and after school programs.
Lastly, our school facilities improvement bond Measure N will be put before San Leandro voters on March 3rd. These funds, along with those already approved through Measure J1, will complete the work identified in 2016 in our comprehensive facilities needs assessment. Visit
www.slusd.us/measuren
to learn more about what is proposed for every school in SLUSD.
Our students rely on you having the facts about challenges facing public education today. With full and fair funding, we can deliver on our promise of more equitable outcomes for all children in San Leandro, which benefits us all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael McLaughlin, Superintendent

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
- Poor attendance influences whether children read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence is a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
Here are ways to help ensure good attendance.
- Establish regular evening and morning routines.
- Send your student to school every day unless they are truly sick.
- Schedule appointments/vacation during breaks or outside school hours.
- Have a backup plan to get to school in case of unexpected events
- Monitor your student’s attendance with Aeries.
We are here to help. Reach out for support in getting to school on time every day.
