We'll feature these events in the March and April newsletters, and post the event in our calendar of events and social media. Please send information to [email protected].

CHESTERTOWN GREEN TEAM ADVANCES ORGANIC MOSQUITO CONTROL EFFORT

SM staff had the pleasure of conducting a Green Team Training in Chestertown (Kent County) this month. The Town was one of the very first municipalities to become certified in the SM program way back in 2012.

We learned about some of their recent projects, including a mosquito control effort that utilizes organic methods in homeowners' yards, rather than the generalized spraying of the pesticide Permethrin that has been employed town-wide in the past. The Environmental Committee/Green Team distributed free mosquito dunk kits to residents, which contained two organic "BT dunks" (or bacillus thuringiensis, a natural mosquito-killing bio-control agent) to be placed in areas of standing water, as well as mosquito control tips. Learn more about this initiative here.

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."
